Re: I've just ordered my first "Masters" marathon K1

I started this thread some years ago. Due to various circumstances-change of work patterns etc. my marathon paddling has dropped off the proverbial cliff. Eventually recognised that it would take some time to get comfortable paddling the Classic again (and losing enough weight to paddle it). So I so...

The French have also just undertaken a rebranding exercise.
Somehow they have managed to incorporate a canoe AND kayak paddle in the same logo!

Try this test to see if your plastic boat has gone brittle.

Meanwhile, Visit Wales is running a short survey on how frequently and how much people spend on adventurous activities. It only takes a couple of minutes to complete and there's a box at the end to say how lovely the rivers are.

Shifty, what is the 'Wild Swimming Campaign'? RALSA obviously work to improve access opportunities for swimmers, but they support the BCU managed River Access Campaign. The Outdoor Swimming Society are registered supporters of River Access For All. I can't find a separate, coordinated 'campaign' org...

Re: No Skeg on my Boat

You're looking for an 'ocean' size spraydeck. Measure length & width of the cockpit & confirm with supplier first. Something like this: http://www.aswatersports.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=70&products_id=1423 http://www.peakuk.com/peakukkit.php?content=spraydeck&prodid=86 (check on size WWR/co...

Re: No Skeg on my Boat

The boat I mentioned in Mike B's old thread had no skeg (it's not the eBay one-mine had a light blue deck over white hull). Yes, the legend will want to weathercock. If you are taking part in a group crossing, expect to be wandering off to windward (depending on what your mates are paddling). Get us...

Re: Dee River Steam train shuttle and paddle blocked

So just which angling bodies claim to have the power to veto this event? I am sure that they would like a platform to explain their decisions to prevent a charity fundraiser taking place. Or interested parties popping an email or FB question to them. I thought that arranging events like this may nee...

Re: Brief History of (GB) Guidebooks

Mike,
I started a thread on SOTP some time ago, trying to reference old literature relating to recreational boating.
Not exactly guidebooks as we know them, but some have details of the routes. And online reading links when I could find them.

I know this is stating the bleeding obvious, but here goes. A friend bought a Tahe Greenland last year, and it leaked into the cockpit when paddled in choppy conditions. Using a squeeze sports bottle of water, we were quickly able to see that the coaming was not fully sealed into the deck rim (see t...

Canoe England have already received comments about this and other outdated "agreements".
Please let them know your displeasure and ask what they are doing about getting river advisors and affiliated clubs to update their information.

The signs are an eyesore in a National Park and should go. However there may be merit in discreet signage indicating access across private land to the river. No more information than that is necessary.
