Menai Straits Challenge

A new informal challenge paddle for sea kayakers within the Menai Straits: Paddle the course whenever you feel like it and post a time via the website. Consider the tides, plan your route, tweak your fitness and aim to take a few scalps as a result. http://www.performanceseakayak.co.uk/Pages/MenaiCh...

Re: N England and IOM book launch Monday 13th

Just working my way through a copy at the moment, as expected a well researched and written book by Jim. Plenty of ideas for interesting future trips, though I'm surprised there aren't more details of the relevant public houses involved! It's also very well proportioned for propping up the front of ...

Looks like it was an excellent trip. I feel quite envious - I might have to plan another foray north sometime.

Re: Operation Wrinkly Fingers - Mull Circumnav

Which way did you go? Clockwise or anti-? Adrian, I went counter clockwise. I had a plan for both directions but conditions seemed to favour this way - now I'm not too sure! I've still got to write it all up so I'll check things over in a bit more detail then. I made a hash of a few things which I ...

Operation Wrinkly Fingers - Mull Circumnav

Yesterday I took ol'Pinky (the Rockpool Taran) for a jaunt around Mull. It didn't all turn out quite as I had hoped or planned but I was pleased (and a touch relieved it has to be said) to make it back into the bay at Craignure after 80 miles of paddling. The trip took over 19 and a half hours(!) - ...

Re: Done and Dusted - Around Ireland 2011

John Shooter is having a tough time shes in Tramore , the wind has really kicked in but she can easily finish her trip, its a case of digging deep and getting on with it. Yes, I heard from Mick O'Mera this afternoon and he said Shooter was suffering the windy conditions. He also said it was really ...

Re: Anglesey Ocean Kayak Race 2011

Got to agree, it was a cracking good race. I think it was probably more of a hoot than the planned course may have been! The surfing was just what the doctor ordered (well probably not actually) - and an inspired choice to make a lap of the Swellies I thought :-) - JB, you should you think yourself ...

Re: Done and Dusted - Around Ireland 2011

Well done to Jeff Allen and Harry Whelan for completing the circumnavigation of Ireland in a fantastic 25 days (TBC - only my calculations!) You got to hand it to the boys, a very impressive effort. Towards the end some of the tales of the daily mileages/paddling hours/weather were positively grueso...

Done and Dusted - Around Ireland 2011

Well, the boys have done it. Harry Whelan and Jeff Allen have just completed the circumnavigation of Ireland, breaking the previous record by a fair margin (exact time to be confirmed). Apparently they are currently sleeping things off - at least I think Jeff is, Harry is probably having another Gui...

Are they their yet? John?? To be honest Steve I'm not too sure. Had a report late on Sunday evening that they were 5 hours out but then things went quiet and they seemed to drop off the radar - slightly worrying. Personaly I haven't heard anything since but Lizzie has posted on the Blog http://roun...

Anglesey Ocean Kayak Race 2011

Just over a week to go to the 1st Anglesey Ocean Kayak Race: http://www.oceankayakrace.com/ Race courses starting from Treaddur Bay or Benllech, depending on weather conditions (with a poor weather option in the Menai Straits). Race distances yet to be finalised but I believe there should be a short...

Re: Around Ireland 2011

Today Jeff and Harry paddled across Strangford Lough accompanied to halfway by Will Brown, after a very welcome stay last night at Will's house. They have finished the day in Kilkeel after working into a F5-6 across Dundrum Bay, though I think they need to brush up a little on their inter-team commu...

Now at Whitehead but it looks like they'll still be working in to a stiff wind tommorrow.

Perhaps a little less of a headwind friday and hopefully no more thieving.

Re: Around Ireland 2011

A bit of bad luck has headed the way of the boys. The sores on Jeff's hands have become infected and while they were away last evening seeking treatment some n'er do wells stole a good chunk of the boy's kit: flares, charts, safety kit, electronic kit and even the Spot Tracker (duh!). This is obviou...

Feeling Rich?

Jeff Allen has received a very generous charity sponsorship offer relating to his Around Ireland paddle: http://roundireland2011.blogspot.com/

Many Thanks Steve!

Anyone feeling flush enough to match it for Harry? We don't want to Harry to have an excuse for an easy day now do we?
