Re: Small car and travelling with a kayak help.

Hi, I did two winters in an old fashioned mini and took two kayaks and a Canadian around fairly happily.

Didn’t really get above 60 though but the power was fine if you wanted it.

Re: Liffey Descent - anyone done it?

Did it about 12 years ago- from memory we went from Swansea and drove up through Wicklow. We camped at what I think was a rugby club. The race was quite exciting for a then relative new comer, I still remember some of the weirs vividly. There were a mixture of slopes, horseshoes and sluices but I ca...

Very un useful but Canoe and Kayak did a whole article on this- I want to say Bill Mathos (sp?) wrote it but I think actually it was written by someone (who possibly posts on here) that did himself a mischief in California and took to finding a safer way of enjoying paddle sport- or thats how I reme...

Even that range isn't going to be enough when it's in the boot of someone's car being driven away after being nicked.

yes 20 years ago the river was round, man made, bottle air, naked police with purple helmets on the nudist beach, Lama racing tracks god its all coming back. 1st year no BA or helmets, 2nd year BA all the time but helmets only on 'rapids', 3rd year helmets all the time. Were they still telling you that if you capsized you had to take your clothes off before swimming to the beach in the nudist areas 20 years ago?

How time flies!

Wonderful memories.

Why does a gopro video always make every river look like the Barle?

Does paddling with a helmet cam iron out risk as it irons out features?

Re: Secret Society Canoe Clubs

There was a awful article in Playboater magazine years ago about Boating Baddies which basically set out to poke fun at just about every differant clique within the paddling world- apart from themselves of course. I think the bottom line is that some paddlers seem to be very wary of anyone that migh...

On a similar theme, I've often wondered which parts of rivers you'd strap together Scalextric style to make a perfect river. Mine would be very UKcentric, Start with the Graveyard on the Mighty T then Ski Jump from The Etive (first time I smiled THAT day) followed by one of the gorgy bits of the Upp...

I'm not sure the Avil has any potential- mind you it would fit your 'manky tree ditch' classification perfectly. It ends up as the storm drain that you drive over whilst passing Dunster castle. I was looking at it at the weekend and thought that getting out at the beech would be interesting because ...

Ive been in the area mountain biking this week and at 5 o'clock yesterday the glaslyn gorge looked unbelievable.

Hi Chris,

If your in West Somerset then there is a club called Exmoor canoe club that sees active members from the Minehead, watchet areas.

Also Taunton CC aren't so far away.

Hi, After a 7 year lay off from paddling I have finally reached the point where lurking on these boards is no longer a viable pass time and its time to either get in- or get out off, the Boat. So, heres the dillema, I have a £1000 to spend on kit the biggest portion of which will be on a kayak which...

Re: paddling in scotland

In my experience The Roy Gorge can be a very cold place in April wearing Wetsuit shorts if you end up in trouble. At best you'll feel very silly standing around in the snow whilst freezing your nads off if anything goes wrong or you have to wait for a shuttle. Take full winter kit imo.

Surely that has more to do with filling the space between seats so you don't shoot forwards and bounce your head off the seat in front at speed - planes as I'm sure we can all work out land with considerable forward speed and the forces trying to rip you out of the seat forwards are way stronger th...

Re: Upper Dart – Why is it infamous?

I would second what Hardy said- I waited what seemed like an age to be taken down what I thought was one of the best rivers I ever paddled. The level -I think- was just below the ledge and I walked Suprise and swam on Euthenasia. I have been an arm chair paddler for a few years now (although strangl...
