Re: Boris says...

So in Wales we it seems as though we can go for a paddle in certain circumstances: https://www.canoewales.com/covid-19-guidance-for-members I don't think the regulations ever made it specifically illegal to paddle but it was something that wasn't considered reasonable as it was against the guidance....

I went to see her in Stackpole tonight. Well worth it and I would recommend going if you can. An amazing trip and a great presentation. She is also engagingly straight forward, modest and likable.

Re: Correlite X Scorpio HV - dissenting view to OP report

Thanks for posting your experiences. I had been looking at Scorpios as a future replacement for my ageing Quest. A friend paddles an original Scorpio and goes very well in it. I have found, however, that as my Quest gets older I treat it with less and less care; but it doesn't seem as delicate as I ...

Re: Gelcoat repair - explained

Thanks Jim

I guess looking at it, my boat has as much crazing as it has star cracks.

I have used it like that for a while.... But I may ask P&H if they can do large scales gelcoat repairs....

Re: Gelcoat repair - explained

The gelcoat on my Quest is full of star cracks. I think it's beyond my abilities and patience to repair. Two questions: Does it matter if I ignore the cracking for a while at least? Does anyone know if it is possible or economic to get large areas of star cracked gelcoat repaired? If so, is it best ...

P&H service.

Not sure if this is the right board to post on but I just wanted to comment on P&H's service. A few weeks ago I damaged my Quest sea kayak through an act of total stupidity. It involved a car, roof rack and car park barrier. I thought my boat was dead when I first inspected the damage. To cut a long...

Re: How long did it take you to roll and how?

I taught myself. On a wave ski to start with then after forgetting how when i stopped paddling a ski I re-learnt in a sea kayak. I am one of those impossible to teach half wit type people, so figuring it out for myself seemed easier. My roll is probably awful and I wouldn't have a clue how to teach ...

Re: Camping on Barra

Hello Mark No its not that one, which I think is up the North end of the island and must be worth a look. This is a small site on the south, close to Castlebay. It is new and when we were there was a bit sandy as the grass had not yet grown due to the fact that the Islands had had almost no rain for...

Camping on Barra

If you are looking for a campsite on Barra before or after a sea trip, the new Borve camp site is definitely worth a go. It is new and still in development but the owner Donald is very friendly and helpful and access to the sea is pretty good nearby. I have no connection to the site at all and usual...

Re: latest waterproof cameras

I have an Olympus Mju 725SW. I have used it for about four years for paddling, hill walking, cycle touring, etc. I wash it sometimes and don't keep it in a case or bag. When paddling it lives in my 'BA' pocket. It still works and has survived numerous dunkings, tens of rolls, bashes and general care...

Re: Jury Service

Jury service is an inconvenient pain. I did it twice is 18 months (once in a coroners court and once in a crown court). I sat through some quite upsetting evidence and then a day of sometimes bizarre discussions. I not enjoy it at all. But.... I learnt a lot and am glad I did it. Having lived in Lat...

Re: Dolphins at Langennith / Rhossilli

I was paddling between Burry Holms and Worms Head on Saturday and met a pod of about 15 to 20 dolphins. Followed them for a while and they came to see us - they were pretty laid back and seemed to be having a good time. I often see porpoises off Gower and sometimes dolphins so they are about. Seeing...

Re: Prijon - Bow Painter Line - How to attach?

On my prijon excursion there is a hook on the deck near the cockpit for the loose end of the painter. You hook the end loop onto this and then there is another hook to the side half way along the painter. You hook the rope behind that to tension it and hold it out of the way. There is also and adjus...

Quest - wear on cockpit foor

Cleaning my quest out after a trip I noticed that the sole of the cockpit below my feet is quite worn. My heels have worn small patches through the glass or diolen or whatever it is and the general area where my feet go has been worn so that the matting is exposed and 'furry' My question is... Do I ...

Can you give a bit more detail about passing through the Corryvreckan? Did you just wait for high/low tide and nose your way along the shore? There were five of us. We had three trolleys (Ekla) and did it in two trips. Plastic boats full and the composites half full with the rest in a big dry bag with rucsac straps. Excuse the lazy questions but.... Circumnavigating Jura; most people seem to go clockwise. Would there be any reason that going anticlockwise would be better or worse? The reason I was wondering because if you set off with settled weather you could go through the Corryvreckan and down the exposed si...

I have a Quest and really like it. Other people report that it dip its bow in chop but when the waves get bigger it is no worse than other boats I have paddled with and whilst the bow may get wet, the waves do not reach the paddler any more often than on other boats. The flip side of this is that, f...
