Kayaking as a new parent

Hi All! I wanted to start a new discussion about kayaking as a new mum or parent! I have written a blog about my experiences http://palmequipmenteurope.com/blog/en/new-mums-%E2%80%93-you-can-still-kayak Are you a new mum/parent, if so do you have any stories, tips or questions to share with me/the f...

Re: Inconsistent assessments at LVWWC - money making exercis

It seems to me that they are really tightening up on the assessments (e.g. requiring you to do two separate assessments for Olympic and Legacy, whereas before it was combined)- so I think some people may have previously passed and now wouldn't. It is totally second hand knowledge, but my understandi...

Re: Small Womens Playboat

I can highly recommend the Dagger Jitsu - the small seems to be smaller than the small sizes of other boats that I've tried (pyranha Jed, jackson rockstar, etc), and this is really the key to trying flatwater moves!

Re: Any ladies got a Dam-X drysuit?

I have found the men's style relief zip and she-wee to be completely unmanageable (like Mary). I pretty much had an epiphany with the Palm element drysuit, but here comes the important bit.... get the Trisuli thermals... its an absolute REVELATION! It is an all-in-one thermal that ALSO has a drop se...

Who- Paula, or Marianne? The former being a much bigger draw, obviously! Why thank you banzer ;-) as to the answer to the question - I believe it is both! Hope to see lots of other UKRG users there too. There is lots for everyone, beginners included. Check it out: https://www.facebook.com/SasHurley...

Re: If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

This is pretty illogical and superstitious I admit, but over time I have come to see the bootie beer as a sort of "penance" which endears you to the river gods and means that you don't suffer the same treatment the next time you paddle. A bit like not weeing in the river. Total rubbish obviously, bu...

Re: River Lee

If it's a canal, won't BCU membership cover you to paddle on it. If it's a river, won't the usual approach apply. i.e. If you can get to the river over public land and not cause any environmental damage, it's fair game? Poke - I agree, I wasn't asking about that... more about the practicality of go...

River Lee

Hi All I think that you have to pay even to use the flatwater part of Lee Valley olympic course. I have noticed that the canal/river lee runs through nearby though. Anyone know if its OK to go for a float over there, or is it all fenced off and stuff? I seem to remember doing my DofE bronze expediti...

Re: Trying to find work in Chile (gap year)

yes but we are talking about WORK visas, and they are pretty strict on that if they find you have a tourist visa and you are working. most places won't give you work without a work visa...

tourist visa is easy as pie to get.

Re: Trying to find work in Chile (gap year)

One of the biggest issues when I was there was getting a work visa - apparently tricky and expensive, although I never tried myself that was what I heard from a number of sources - probably worth investigating that too!!

Re: Preparing for Lee Valley Legacy assessment?

Your still signing a disclaimer that says your taking part in a dangerous activity at your own risk. Self certification falls a foul when someone else hurts you, says novice paddler, no control and the paddler in question then turns around and sues the centre for allowing them on the course / not c...

Re: Preparing for Lee Valley Legacy assessment?

I understand that the insurers at LV required the assessment to take place. Personally, I think it is an interesting conundrum, but from the centre's perspective, I would favour the self-certification route. This way, HPP have the argument (which LV can't use) - ah yes you hurt yourself, but you wer...
