Re: Canoe & kayak Mag' to close ?

Its a boring magazine, same contributors, same stuff, "lets test creek boats on the Etive and Tees."

Hard to write about new stuff when things (in my opinion) are very sedate and stagnant in kayaking.

Kayak Session has a very good website and a magazine that is worth the money.

I believe you. I think it took bigger balls to put it on here!

I just think you missed a trick not using Thornton Force as a training exercise for the run. Oh Stainforth beck top drop would be another good practice.

Re: Yorkshire Dales - Appletini

Just scouted a potential spot lower down on the Wharfe, between Bolton Abbey and Addingham. It was running today at really really low water, buuutttt, its a prime trout fishing spot. The water funnels into a channel about a meter wide, speeds up for a good 10m, then opens up with eddies both sides I...

Re: AUCC caught the viral bug...

I agree with Uni groups as this demographic funds the sport. Good education, good job, more disposable income. I disagree with the mass descent on sections of rivers. Which annoys locals causing stress for other kayakers. I am hoping to have a meeting to promote kayaking with the Yorkshire Dales Nat...

Ive never been called grumpy before! Must be turning into my dad, or spent too long writing a neutral access section for the Yorkshire WW guide.

Could be jealous that I didnt go to uni.

Hmmmm I wonder why landowners and residents get cross at kayakers?

Please don't come to Yorkshire and do that.

Re: Guidebooks - 1st descent info

...It would add a huge amount to the interest and not a little to the information value of any guidebook. Would it? I debated this with a friend around the climber's SPA award, where (if it still applies) you were asked about first ascents and historic climbs. To me, while it's a nice bit of trivia...

Re: RIVER WHARFE (Beckermonds to Hubberholme)

There is a brilliant parking/ changing spot just after the Beckermonds turning on the right. As you climb the hill on the Hawes road. There is no point driving down and parking next to the river, it will just cause agro. Its a two minute boat carry. I suggest this parking is used for Oughtershaw Bec...

Re: Support your local Kayak shop

This post has been interesting, it got me thinking about my kayak related purchases. When I bought my first new boat (Dagger G Force) It was at good price, I got to demo it in the pool (heated) plus I was shown how to double pump, bow stall in it. Amazing service, I then bought my creek boat 6 month...

Re: Support your local Kayak shop

Go Outdoors is a shop where no one feels a connection to. They offer a price match but will wangle out of it where possible. I almost see Go Outdoors as a good indicator of the outdoor industry as a whole growing in times of austerity. I can see smaller grass route UK manufactures increasing. Making...

Re: Support your local Kayak shop

Destination retailing, all the big shops do it. You have to create an experience. Interesting that you say 'All the big shops do it'. Big shops I mean A n F, Topshop, Apple. These supply consumer products that we don't need but covert and has to convince us to buy the products. Kayak equipment fall...

Re: Support your local Kayak shop

Destination retailing, all the big shops do it. You have to create an experience. Topshop now have DJ's and club like lighting, it makes you in the mood and want to buy the "dress" for the club later. Abercrombie, Jack Wills all create a shopping experience, you are not in a shop but in a show. Howe...

Re: Help: Fibreglass boat construction

Gui Gui Prod website is good for inspiration. I started to make a copy of my G Force ages ago, worked hard but it's bloody hard shaping. And costly. One piece of advice I would give is, enjoy the process, if you rush to get the end product you will be disappointed with the results. Take your time, d...

I like the binery grading system. Yes/ No If that's for your book, you probably want to correct the spelling to 'binary' - not trying to be a smart arse, hoping that's helpful. I may send you the book to proof read before sending it to the printers. I try, but spelling and gramma is not my strong p...

Re: Grading discussion: Swale

This is what I have written for the grading section of the Yorkshire Whitewater book. Describing the technical difficulty, skills required and dangers of a rapid/ drop in a single number is fraught with difficulty. Therefore, it's important not to take the grades given as gospel, they are only a gui...

OK, how does a run become established? What if the landowner gave permission for kayaking, and tree's were removed and it was run on basis?

Runs must have had stuff removed to become established?

It's a really good run, there is an even bigger tree in the gorge, which is a portage, with this out it would be ace.

Over reaction to Clapham Beck video

Just received an email last night from YouTube telling me about a comment on the Clapham Beck video, well it was a real rant. Accusations of criminal trespass and vandalism, that I have ruined any chance of anybody running the section and how the land owner is livid. http://m.youtube.com/user/counci...

Once spent 2 days with ropes and boats and kinda made a small video for one of the rainchasers film comps. It wil...

Re: Kayaking movie with a difference

And the difference is?............. Two minutes to get to any boating, I'm getting really board with these long intro's. Is there no exiting kayaking video's around these days, or is it there are more mediocre video's being shown. I used to make films of the kayaking I did. I tried to make interesti...
