Re: Barrier across the Dee

There is a House of Lords ruling about ownership of air space above your land. You can not own air space above your land. I think it talked about floating on water in the same judgment. Floating on water in a river regardless of the right to navigate, you are not physically committing a trespass as...

Re: Barrier across the Dee

Health and safety professional here, I don't deal with trespassers and occupier's liability really in my work but I did have to study the law on the subject in depth, I'm sure a real lawyer would know more. This is my take on the legal situation. There are two Occupiers' Liability Acts, both are law...

Re: Kayaking when you live in London - help?!

Regents are friendly and seem quite active, I went to a few sessions earlier in the year until life got in the way but now I'm able to go to some of the sessions I really do need to start going again. They can't help with boat storage though. I can confirm that TFL is not very open to you carrying a...

Re: River Barle Re-opened

I enquired about whether or not I needed to book access to navigate the river in my rubber ring. They send a long email back explaining the agreement, but apparently it does not cover "rubber ringing" and they say that I "would have to approach landowners yourself if you wish to seek permission for ...

Arrrgh! I was literally going to buy a new BA this week. Except now I've seen this. http://www.palmequipmenteurope.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/BA170_Luna_Plum-SMALL.jpg Does anyone have any idea when it might be available to buy? I am quite happy to pre-order or get from whoever can get it ...

Re: Boat size and van conversions

I haven't looked at eddyflower recently because my browser thinks it hosts malware, but I've not seen any of those sites list the dimension I need most - the height from the ground - to see how much clearance is needed to fit big boats (as while I don't have one atm it's not unreasonable to think I ...

Re: Boat size and van conversions

*googles* That's pretty neat (although I think I'd still need a step ladder to put it up, I can't reach the roof at all), however I can't afford the price tag, don't keep the bars on the roof and it looks like you'd have to with that, or at least it'd make it harder to get them on and off (it's my o...

Boat size and van conversions

Odd question - I'm in the process of planning my van conversion but stuck and need to make room for boats, I only have a little boat at the moment but want to be able to fit big boats, so was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to give me the dimensions of their boats - height and width to be pr...

Re: Hydro....

I'm doing a project on this at the moment, for uni and as a competition to npower. There is the potential of several GW of small scale hydro in the UK, about 1GW which is 'financially advantageous' according to some government council. Small scale run of river hydro is incredibly cheap (per kWh) giv...

Re: Neck seal replacement guides?

I put a seal in my semi-dry maybe 4 months ago. I just put the cag inside out on a mannequin torso (strangely, my brother owns several), used magnets as 'pins' and stuck my seal to the neoprene neck with aqua-something (whatever it's called, the glue the diving shop sold me). Then I glued electrical...

UKCC L1 - mid week?

Hi, I'm really wanting to start my coaching awards but am rarely available at weekends (and almost never in a row like the courses normally are), does anyone run midweek courses? I've done my BCU S&R but not my 2* so idealy hoping to have this included.

We tend to use

Stop
Left
Right
Eddy Out
To me
Chug chug
Slow down
Portage/death/actually kids, I know we already have a stop and eddy out signal but this time I really mean it.

Never really had a problem remembering them or confusing them, several of them work pretty well between cars aswell...

Mid week paddling

OK, I admit it, I'm a slacker. I have nothing to do most of the week (I've yet to find a job that can do the hours I can do due to clashes with uni), and would love to spend some of that time paddling, except all my friends have jobs and unversity and all these other committments, is anyone else fre...

Haha! That is quality. That reminds me of doing the Crake with one car, we got a shuttle off a friend before he went climbing. Get to the bottom, no key. Later we found the key on the floor where we'd taken the boats off the roof. Really appreciative to the nice pub who let us inside to the warm, us...

A big thank you (with cherries on top) to anyone in the car park above Chain Bridge Hotel today and very kindly decided not to steal the Focus which some complete muppet left the key in the door of. Latex allergy

I've got a mild latex allergy, while externally it doesn't cause too many problems other than a rash around my neck if I wear a seal and itchy wrists I'm thinking it's only going to just get worse. I've switched to a semi dry cag so no latex around the neck, is there an alternative for the wrist sea...

Well I know we don't have spokesmen for the sport, I guess by "expert" she means more someone who has any experiance of it, u'know, aside from looking at a picture and going 'oooo' :P

Apparently it's a slow news day.
