Re: Kayaks for the unhurried WW paddler?
Thanks for the input guys. Seems Pyranha's new Machno could be a contender. The hull looks nice as does the rocker profile. To quote from their FB page: , essentially the difference is in the style of paddling each suits; 9R needs to be driven but rewards that effort with speed, in Machno you can ta...

Re: Kayaks for the unhurried WW paddler?
Haha! Rory to be honest, more information is required to offer advice. For instance there are distinct differences in sizes of boats. 9R and 9RL are quite different boats. Mamba 7.6 and 8.6 are similarly different. Height, weight, previous boats paddled, what you liked, disliked about those boats. ...

Kayaks for the unhurried WW paddler?
Within recent years the emphasis for river runner/creeker design seems to have moved towards speed speed and more speed. Raptors, Tunas, 9Rs etc. Usually coming with comments such as "needs to be driven hard" or "needs to be paddled aggressively to get the most from this boat". I'm getting back into...

Selling my old NDK Explorer HV. Yellow deck, white hull. Rope skeg. Last paddled about a year and a half ago but injury and other priorities will keep me from paddling for awhile yet. it could do with some tlc and a few repairs as there are are some star cracks on the hull. Re: The trend for huuuuuuge volume boats
I started reading this thread now my head hurts. I paddle to get away from analysing and overthinking...much more fun that way ;)
So what I need to know is at 5'10'' and 80kg (12.5 stone) do I get myself a Raptor 83 or hold fire and join the bobbing masses with the 93? Seriously thoughts appreciated?

Choosing paddles when you're a T.Rex !!
Maybe I'm not quite a T.Rex, but standing 177cm with a 173cm arm span gives me a negative 'ape index'. Intuition tells me to consider a longer paddle compared to a paddler physically identical except with say a positive ape index (longer arms). Given that at 5'10'' and 85kg I tend to be on the bott...

Re: Big Zet Raptor
Cheers chaps I’m a fan of the innovation in the stock Raptor and those I have spoken to who have one, have nothing but good things to say about them. At 13.5 stone (in my civvies) in a bit too big for it....Any idea what the size/volume will be or the target weight range will be for the big one? Wo...

Re: Adventure race boat choice: Seakayak or Wavehopper?
Dumping surf will not be an issue. The kayaking leg is approx 15km of fairly sheltered estuary paddling with tidal assistance. No portages or other requirements I am aware of. Manoeuvrability will not be a factor.

Adventure race boat choice: Seakayak or Wavehopper?
Looks like I'll be doing an adventure race during the summer. Nothing to serious. Can use my NDK Explorer for the paddling leg, but also have an option of a Perception Wavehopper. I've paddled the Wavehopper once and it felt fast, but presumably my explorer would be the faster option (being 1.4 metr...

Wanted: long, fast cheap kayak for fitness training!
Based in N.Wales/Cheshire
Looking for a boat to put in some training miles on flat water. Anything considered - Ideally something around 4m length, plastic or composite. Not bothered about condition. Pyranha Speeder would be ideal.

Re: Everest as an alternative to Burn M (+ other options)
[I would say you may be a little tall of the Everest, yet it depends on your own specific proportions. Look at the Shiva M, Mamba 8.6 and even the Burn L. You are a lighter tall person, so should be looking at the larger boats. Thanks Simon. I wouldn't describe myself as tall and certainly not ligh...

Everest as an alternative to Burn M (+ other options)
My apologies in advance for another dreaded what boat post. In a nutshell: I'm looking to replace my Burn M. Thinking about the Everest as a good option. Why? Because I'm hoping to step up the grades this year from 3/4 to more of 4/5. The latest trends appears to be veering towards huge volume boats...
