Re: Most influential WW Paddlers of all time?
I guess you are after some big names but to be honest the big names haven't really been that influential to my paddling which quite selfishly is what I am concerned about! You see some people doing some pretty amazing stuff but that doesn't really change my paddling ... it is of course nice to see t...

Re: Carbon Playboat...
As a keen but not really all that good playboater I have a plastic Big Dog Kaos. I don't have a carbon boat for one simple reason and it is nothing to do with money (although I couldn't afford one even at £1200). I don't have or want a carbon boat as I would break it too quickly. I took my plastic K...

Re: Insurance for non-members (newbies) at pool sessions
Iain,
Indeed ... AALA is only related to under 18's so if you are an adult only club then have no bearing on you. We accept kids from 11 so it is relevant for us (we think, hence we play as if it is ... if someone knows otherwise it would be really good to ditch those rules!)

Re: Insurance for non-members (newbies) at pool sessions
I think (and this is basically what our club has passed down over the years) that the 3 sessions thing comes from making sure you are a private members club to avoid having to be AALA licensed. A voluntary association (a non-profit making membership organisation, commonly a club) does not require a ...

Re: Bad Customer Service - Desperate Measures?
They are off to the Scottish Canoe Show in Perth. A quick look at their website brings up http://www.desperate-measures.co.uk/paddling-news/?p=4008 which explains that they are having to shut the shop as all the stock and staff are going to be in Scotland. I realise you were a few days before they s...

Re: Introducing your kids to paddling - What age ?
My daughter started paddling her own kayak when she was just under 3 years old. She can swim so long as she has a buoyancy aid on and is more than confidant in the water (a little too confidant sometimes!). It only works because I managed to get her a Fun 1 which is small enough and light enough for...

Re: hpp hydro scheme
The one at Linton Locks on the Ouse has, as far as I am aware from talking to the guy who lives there, been approved for quite a while. He insists it will not effect the fish ladder and therefore won't affect paddling there very much. All that said nothing has actually been done in the couple of yea...

Re: swim on the lledr on saturday
may be it would be more representive if you posted the stuff you paddled well during the day to give the Whole story I've had the pleasure of paddling with Jason a number of times and can quite happily say that he is stepping up to this kind of stuff on a regular basis. If you step up to these thin...

Re: Sad News on River Dane
Sarah and I paddled with Jane at university and she was always happy, smiley and enthusiastic not to mention the best minibus driver we had! It is so sad to hear that this has happened our thoughts are with Jane's family and friends, especially those who were with her at the time.

Pete,
They look like they may be Carriage Return, Line Feeds to me. Have you gone from windows to linux? Use *nix safe editor like PSPad or UltraEdit to open the files and save it and you should be fine.
If you need any further help just drop me a line and I'll have a look.

Re: Front looping on flat water
I used an old set of paddles set to 0 degree to learn and then once I had work out how to bounce moved back to my 45's. I think the flat paddles made it easier to work out what to do for me.

Re: Do Clubs need to be AALA registered
As far as I know from our club you can join in on sessions 3 times before you have to become a member this is so that we remain a 'private members club'. It is the fact that we are a private members club that means we don't need to be AALA licensed. I suppose it helps that the club is also a not for...

Re: Confidence loss - Any advice?
Having had a couple of epics last year my confidence was a bit shot at one point and I found the best way over it was to get out with a small group of people that I trusted the most and paddle as much as I could, whatever the grade. Doesn't take long for the confidence to come back when paddling in ...

Just got back from doing the Rec Level 2 course with Dave (http://www.extremecare.co.uk) and have to say it is without a doubt the best first aid course I have ever done. Now looking forward to doing a third day with Dave sometime soon putting things into practice out on a river somewhere rather tha...

Bear in mind anything that you put online can be stolen, whether it is flash, 'protected' by javascript or any other method. Watermarking it in a way that doesn't spoil the image but is hard to remove is the best your can really do (and preferably in a way that is easy and not time consuming to do) ...
