Re: Question on Mega boats

Now I hope I get this right but it goes something like this.... Listen up boys and girls, A long time ago in a land not to far away, Malcolm at Mega kayaks wanted to make a plastic boat, at the time the Marauder was very popular so it seemed an obvious choice. A few changes were made to the Marauder...

Re: Playboating techniques?

As you are in a more old school inspired slicey playboat (good move in my opinion) then Play Daze by Ken Whiting would be an awesome instructional video.

It dates from the era of slicey playboats and is hard to beat for learning all the cool old school tricks (stern squirts, stalls, pirouettes etc.).

Cheers for the awesome reply Denzil. I will keep an eye on the second hand market and see what turns up. I am tempted maybe to keep to 2 x kayaks one being the jacvk of all trades and one for the HP balls to the wall as you put it. Just being curious what rules out the Billit XS in your opinion? IT...

Re: What do you wear when surf kayaking???

Why are you thinking of changing from the impact vest? I am only asking out of interest, I already have a Sandiline BA and am quite happy with it, but I always thought impact vests looked quite useful for surfing. I tried a friends one and found it slightly less restrictive than my current impact v...

Re: What do you wear when surf kayaking???

I surf all year round and take an occasional involuntary dip in the sea. depending on conditions I wear anything from dry cag and dry trousers with base and mid layer thermals (and can be warm surfing with snow on the ground) down to a Nookie ti-vest and ir guide shorts if it is warmer. The only thi...

Re: Suggestions for my next surf kayak?

It rather depends on what you are looking for from your next boat and whether you want a true Jack of all trades surf craft (Bullit S, Exclipse, Banshie etc.) or a more balls to the wall HP shred machine (Proton, Edge, Zennith or anything post Neutron really) The first will be easier to transition t...

Re: Latex-free drysuit?

Reed Chillcheater do a line of latex free dry suits.

Not everyone's cup of tea but they seem pretty popular down here in Cornwall.

I absolutely love their cags and would probably go for one of their paddle suits if I were in the market for a dry suit.

Check it out!

Re: Advice re Necky Jive 8.10

It has just about the best hull for surfing of any white water boat ever made.

I love the Jive 8'10" and am annoyed with myself for getting rid of my last one.

It was my weapon of choice for paddling down the grand canyon and if I were to do the trip again I would want another Jive 8'10"

Not 100% sure what you mean here but there was a plastic version of the Neutron RV Made, it was the Exo Xw1 which still features in their 2017 catalogue (http://exokayak.com/wp-content/uploads/ ... o-2017.pdf)

Hmmmm, Id take that weight range with a pinch of salt personally. I haven't paddled one but thought the Neutron X was essentially a plastic version of the Neutron RV (?) Nope, the X was made from the same plug as the original plastic Neutron (Which is the same plug as the Megatron was made from) bu...

I seem to remember one of their old staff members saying that it was designed by a surf kayaker? Well if it was then they were not designing it to surf or just had no idea what they were doing. That just looks like it would be a complete pig in the surf and has nothing to suggest a surf oriented de...

Re: Flying to the US with a surf kayak, which carrier?

Just a thought, do you just put your boat in a travel bag (padded), or do you add extra padding around the boat? Yes and yes. I use a padded boat bag made by RB Sails (also used a padded surfboard coffin bag before too) and I put a bit of extra foam around the rails and vulnerable points to give it...

Personally I think that anybody that judges others on the internet in the way that jsymonds does, is clearly not a paddler good enough to take on anything harder than Grade 2. I have made this assessment based on the wealth of evidence available in this post and I think it would be massively reckles...

Re: Where have all the old school boats gone!!

Where have they all gone? Peoples garages and gardens. They are worth so little to sell these days that I know a fair number of paddlers that have at least one old school playboat in their fleet (mine is a Wavesport Foreplay) that only gets used on rare occasions but will probably never get sold. Th...
