Re: McMurdo Fastfind PLB battery replacement

You can order the batteries online, and are very easy to replace. I've an older McMurdo plb though. Not sure what the new ones are like.

Re: Weather by text to a mobile phone

I used the aforementioned service last year and found it excellent. A bit surprised more isn't made of it.

Re: Gosford Bay, East Lothian

Paul Not aware of any local paddlers that frequent Gosford Bay. There's little of interest, and I've paddled past it several times. It's relatively shallow, dries out quite far, so whatever you are planning, you would need to time correctly. Looking at the chart, I see there is a drainage pipe about...

Re: Wanted - Lendal Paddle

Hi Mike Ann didn't have anything in stock last time I spoke to her. Pete never answered, so fair to assume he didn't have one. Went to Celtic Paddles, and didn't get quite what I was looking for ( no criticism of Celtic Paddles, who were actually very good and turned it around within two days, as I'...

Swim to St.Kilda

Hi Between June 28th and July 4th, a team of nine swimmers are going to try and swim from Horgabost on Harris, to St.Kilda. They will swim relay style, each taking 45 minutes stints, non-stop, until they arrive. They are undertaking this challenge to raise money for three worthwhile charities. Detai...

Re: St Marys loch off limits?

Hi I've often paddled at St.Mary's with no issues, and know others that have as well. Never heard of any issues. Have always launched from a layby, and not from the Sailing Club. Megget *may* be slightly different because of the dam and Scottish Water, but I suspect if you keep to the far end you wo...

Re: SCA President?

Neil Thanks for taking the time and trouble to respond. To the best of my knowledge we’ve never met. However, I’ve seen some of your postings over the last few years and you come across as someone who is trying to move things forward. The inserts I was referring to were indeed the voting papers. I w...

Re: SCA President?

Well that seemed a pretty lame response from the Board. Two weeks of difference between the closing date for Scottish Paddler and for nominations. Doesn't seem like rocket science to me to sort that one out. And even now, some three weeks after the closing date, we're still not being told who is sta...

Re: Statement from SCA Sea & Coastal Touring Committee

Richard Re the cost to support Touring, I asked the question in a related post, reply from Mike was about £800. You'll perhaps remember that I first met you on a Touring meet on Islay, and that has subsequenly led on to many adventures. The Board don't realise what they are destroying. Regards Rob

Re: Resignations from SCA Board of Directors

I'm puzzled. If the TC has been running for the last 30 years, why has is suddenly became unsustainable ? What's changed ? Also, from the meeting in Bridge of Allan a couple of years ago, I seem to remember discussion about whether or not the trips were "SCA" trips or not. If I remember it was a bit...

Yuo might struggle with current water levels ...

As alternative suggestion, there's the Durty Triathlon at St.Mary's Loch .. ( swim, mountain bike, hill run )

Hi I'm going to Oban paddling weekend of Feb 15th/17th .... But no plans to go to Devon. I live about 50 miles north of Carlisle, so if anyone was heading down from Carlisle after that date, could try and help out. But note that I have a day job, so any boat handover would be in the evening, or duri...

Re: Bass Rock Cave

Richard

Was back out at the Bass last night, pretty much at HW Springs. Could still have landed at the West side, and the East side looked a lot easier than it did at LW. But the sea was also dead flat. Paddling through at HW just wasn't going to happen, not by a long way.

Beachley ...

Hi

Anyone know where we could safely camp somewhere around Beachley that has access to the Severn ? Or at least within trolleyable distance ? Doesn't have to be Beachley itself, just somewhere around that general area.

Thanks

Re: Charging ICOM VHF on a Trip

Hi Many thanks for all the replies. I already have a spare battery, so sounds as if that may see me through most of the time. I also phoned ICOM UK but they couldn't offer any advice. I'll have the same issue with the phone and the camera, but these will be easier to resolve. Thanks to all that took...

Charging ICOM VHF on a Trip

Hi

Anyone got any experience of charging ICOM handheld VHF's during a long trip, where a 240V supply won't be available. Thinking about the likes of powermonkey type devices, solar charging ....etc ... Or any other thoughts ....

Cheers
