Re: Another East Lyn Pin

Yes.....thought so Mark. Very haughty aren't we .

By the way....the "majority on here" do not hold the same opinions as the more numerous paddlers who see this as a very exclusive club . To full of egos .

Goodbye.

Re: Another East Lyn Pin

Morsey is right : The day i got pinned i was paddling badly , and if i thought the "pin spot" was as bad as it turned out to be , i would have at the very least scouted , and probably walked . I had paddled there about a dozen times before , and never had any real problem , except i think my second ...

Re: Secret Society Canoe Clubs

Jim's comment is bang on in my opinion . I am still in a club , but mostly paddle outside of that . I do however , try and pick out the club members who are a little more adventurous , because ( like a bright kid in an average school ) they seem to get left out . In my opinion , this is because the ...

Re: Apres Paddle Pubs

Not really Tony . As you know....i like a beer or ten , and it is one of the few places we can paddle then "go to town". "Castle Inn " is great , but we only have 2 ;-) Another good place , but not sure if it strictly qualifies , is "The Eagles" bunkhouse in Penmachno . For those who don't know , it...

Re: Apres Paddle Pubs

Drinking and travelling long distances mean you can't usually have a proper session . However , sometimes you have exceptions , maybe staying close by etc . Late this summer got one nice paddle on a ledge covered Dart with a close friend , who felt he was pushing his limit for a 2nd run , so we hit ...

A friend of mine is not now coming to RDCP but has booked abed in our dorm ( 2 i believe ) . £20 bed and breakfast per night , booked for Friday and Saturday . Please PM me if interested. I think , as Simon said above , there are still places.

Re: Which Saw?

Tony Moore's "Bacho" saw is certainly a beast. I've never seen him cut anything with it though . However , during a briefing we gave to some newbies about to embark on their first white water experience of the Barle , he produced the knife and proceeded to scare the bejesus out of them , extolling s...

Re: To Paddle or not?

Many many things cause problems in our environment . Real problems . Sliding down a slimey rock into a plunge pool can be great fun . Listen to your conscience , not others with their "agendas" .

Dave.....just saw Eric Boomer and Sarah last week in Exeter . Great stuff . Bought 2 copies of your book as well . However , having started to read the book , and hearing glimpses of your expeditions from a mutual friend , when are you going to tell the rest of your stories ? There are a lot of eage...

Drove Bristol to Exeter last night , caught the traffic , missed the film "Kadoma" that was first on ; But the hour listening to Sarah and Boomer was worth the hassle . Great stuff.

Re: kayak welding

"Bomb proof weld" is not possible in my experience. However , to prolong the use of your ( now very much devalued ) boat , a good method is to put some fine stainless steel mesh over the crack , and then push a soldering iron ( or any good conductor of heat ) against it until the plastic melts throu...

Re: What are mates for?

Sorry my predicament overshadowed your kick flip Simon , but as stated above i was desperately trying to draw attention away from the Bambino , so in that respect i was successful ! The group was to big as we all probably agree . We went down as a "two" , thinking we might grab a lift at the end for...

Re: What are mates for?

Ok: My last outing to the Lyn , about a year ago , i nailed most of the lines . It was apparently on the higher side . It felt cleaner . I have only managed 2 UK river paddles since xmas , this was the third after a two week break , so i was a little rusty . ( I had been to Norway several months ago...

MK123: I knew the nose of my boat had not hit the bottom. I just knew somehow . I could not reach the deck loop, as i have said elsewhere, as a part of the rock was against the left side of my ribcage . I grabbed at the deck side ready to pull it from there , ( brand new "Snap Dragon" deck i had jus...

Re: What are mates for?

Giles is correct. It is called a "crux" move because it is a little more complex than a drop . You boof a 6 footer into an ( as yet ) unseen channel under a small cliff on the left . Different levels give variation to the features there , but usually some water cushions of the undercut and fires to ...

Main drop crux 1 : Be very careful , and scout this thoroughly . I and two others have been vertically pinned by missing the main line , and being pushed into the right hand slot . If possible get someone on the rock between the main drop and the right channel. Maybe , this person could stop a paddler going into the right channel . However , as always , decisions will be made on the day.
