The last I saw of mine was stuck in the middle of a rapid on the Ogwen-probably nearly 35 years ago by now. Happy days-I loved mine for the short time I had them, though I have vague recollections of snapping a pair too.
Cheers Chris

Ahhhh come on Jim- I had a brilliant time watching the fun a games you had in the rapids-though best of all was your surreptitious tipping over of Dave in that eddy-perfect boat for that!
Looking forward to catching up-I'll have my 2 daughters wit me this time

Re: Bump or cyst or callous on my thumb !
Greetings There is more information on Mark's site regarding a few things like calluses than I can find by trawling the medical/sports literature. It is interesting as in the Sports Medical literature, calluses on the hands of sailors have been described-actually 5 different types. I have a particul...

A great Christmas Pressie-but a little overpriced?
I might be a little biased but The Welsh Rivers is a nice book, and a great Christmas pressie, BUT I thought this was a little overpriced!

Re: A strange request- Aquatic Dermatology
Some of my friends have got hogweed burns from river banks (photodermatitis?) How interesting. They contain coumarins which photosensitize-similar to how lime, parsnips and celery can. They usually cause a streaky somewhat linear dermatitis which can leave pigment changes. Just the kind of thing I'...

A strange request- Aquatic Dermatology
Hello, This may seem a rather strange request but perhaps some of the readers can help. I have been asked to do a plenary session lecture at the World Congress of Dermatology-which next year is in Vancouver. It is rather like the Olympic Games of Dermatology with 15000 dermatologists turning up. Wha...

Greetings from a gloomy and overcast BC, Back in the day we returned for a number of years to run rivers in the hanging side valleys of the Dora Baltea. One , quite close to Courmayer was the Dora di Ferrett. The bottom section is full of steep weirs and un-runnable. The upper section in the hanging...

Aber Uni had me at 8.06 secs- the look on that fellow's face just summed up why I had such a great time boating in Wales for a good quarter of a century of my life(not that I ever had the nerve to run that particular drop). Bravo

Actually, Jim, I'm already looking at dates for 2 to 3 years time for a return trip-I'll sort you out a discount for that! Frank dropped my boat off a few days back- along with Richard's probably illegal walking stick. Maybe I'll think about trying it in a canoe too- I have a few years to train up C...

Re: Jim Wallis Open Boats the Grand Canyon
Jim- you were one of the stars of the trip-= along with an aging but sporty Fred Wondre- and the old paddler who rode the raft to the lip of Lava, got back in his kayak to nip down the drop, and then got back on the raft for the rest of the day!

Re: Jim Wallis Open Boats the Grand Canyon
I should point out that I was the one wondering about whether any Brits had been down the Canyon in an open boat-and not Jim. He did an amazing job of battling against full on winds in the tub that he rented. Fair play as far as I'm concerned and worth the crate of beer I bought him! Mind you there ...

Jim Wallis Open Boats the Grand Canyon
Just got back from a superb run down the Grand Canyon. The rapids were much bigger than I remembered- probably due to water levels. Jim Wallis was a stalwart in his open C1- sure he took a few thrashings but was amazingly stoic and resilient. North Americans are generally much more experienced in th...

Influential whitewater paddlers - snyder paddlers, lugbill and hearn, richard fox, Jones/Manby/Hewlett. Shout outs have to go to Bill masters (perception) Graham Mackereth (pyranha) and Joe pulliam (dagger) - they were all paddlers and through their companies have done a lot. In terms of my influen...

The Last Place on the 6th May, 2013 Grand Canyon Trip We have a fully guided trip running the river from the 6th May through to the 18th, for this year 2013. I have one place for either a kayaker (or canoe if you really want) or a raft slot. This is due to my good buddy Tim Davies ( 3 times veteran ...
