Re: Being paid to coach....

You only need an AALS license if you are operating on more than Shelter Water (i.e. more than 50 metres from the bank in any direction). If you are working with under 18s and their parents are there as well, you don't need a license.

I'm currently using a set of Select Warrior paddles and I have to say they are the best paddles that I have personally used to date. Excellent customer service from Rick at Fire It Up.

Maybe its more to do with the fact that the centre has started running its program of courses again. And that Rescue 3 UK has been put into liquidation by Canoe Wales, which was one of Canoe Wales revenue streams.

Hi Tom, You have a couple of options, you could do a two day level 2 transfer course (which is basically a coaching processes course) or do a two day coaching processes course, or possibly APL that part of the requirement to do Advanced Water Endorsement training, on the strenght of you being a teac...

Re: Coaching Eddies and Ferrygliding, useful analogies?

Keep it really simple. Find shallow section of water, with nice eddies, that you can stand in the flow. Get them to paddle at you, as if they are trying to hit you, when they get close tell them to look downstream. Repeat multiple times from both sides of the river. Ask them to verbalise what they h...

Re: Technical Advisor Qualifications

Depends on what sort of school it is..... State School - the local authorities visits advisor or similar would be able to tell you, what they want. Private - you can do what you like.... You just have to justify it. Have you had a look here - http://www.hse.gov.uk/aala/guidance/515-paddlesports.htm ...

Found spraydeck at MEM

After finishing a 4* training course today on the Dee, we found a spray deck that someone had left on a wall.

We handed it in to Chis Leesmith at Paddleworks. So if it is yours please contact him there and arrange collection.

Re: Advice on new boats & kit for new club

What do you intend to do with the kayaks? Are you mainly a flat water / touring / white water club? Working with adults or juniors more? You have two options, 1fleet of kayaks that are all the same, that fit a range of sizes, something like Master TG series or a fleet of completely random kayaks Per...

Paddled today, with the gauge showing well into the Green. Got grief from a fisherman at the end of the gorge. Police will be being informed, as we were threatened with having stones thrown at us, he then cast at us, saying that if one of us got caught it would be our own fault. in the end we ignore...
