Re: Do cockpit covers reduce fuel consumption?

You're driving a vehicle with the aerodynamics of brick, then you've bolted a scaffold tower to it and added two bin lids on top, cockpit covers will make negligible difference to fuel economy. But they will stop your kayaks filling with rainwater and overloading your bars, they also look better.

Re: Thoughts - Rockpool Taran 18

I'm 6' and 95kg and have both, although technically speaking I have a 18 and the missus has the 16 which if I'm a good boy I'm allowed to paddle. Both are great boats the key difference that you feel is in forward speed (18) and manoeuvrability (16). If your not bothered about forward speed / have f...

Re: GPS

I have a Garmin Oregon 450 loaded with 1:50 OS GB (not NI) sat on my shelf gathering dust, I've also got a couple of bike mounts for it somewhere. They seem to sell on ebay for £180 or so, so £150 ono incl postage if anyone wants it.

Re: Romany v Alaw Bach

Have never paddled a Romany, so cannot comment on that aspect. I would say that the build quality of Rockpool is way ahead that of SKUK/NDK boats.

Pyranha 9RL / Stout with neoprene cockpit cover (Pool use only so like new)

This boat has never been used in the wild and in consequence is better than most ex-demo boats on offer. Fit out kit included.

Includes Pyranha cockpit cover.

Based near Darlington (home) or in Sunderland (work). I do travel about the UK so maybe able to deliver if it fits with my plans.

Re: Bow deck clutter

If you paddle with a group you may want to access your pump for others, not just when you go for a swim. A pump and map are the only two things I keep on my deck.

Re: Motorhome Roof rack

We went through this quandary a couple of years ago. Due to concerns as to how many coachbuilts leak and the short warranties on water ingress given by manufacturers, coupled with concerns as to how manufacturers fit the roof bars to a fiberglass / plastic box. we opted for a LWB Boxer conversion. K...

Large Burn Mk 3 with Spraydeck - both pool use only

Hi Folks I am reviewing the fleet and cannot see me using this much in the near future, too busy with sea-kayaking and this flatwater racing malarkey. The boats a year old but has only been used within the raging torrents of Richmond Pool so is like new its only been used half a dozen times. It has ...

Re: Insurance for courses

Two possibilities:

He is running a First Aid course which is a prerequisite for BCU course - he is covered under his BCU insurance.

The club is offering a course to its members - its covered under the clubs policy.

Either way I think you are over thinking this one.

Lendal Kinetic 4 piece cranked varilock Carbon 212-218

As it says in the title 4 piece carbon cranked shaft and carbon blades, an excellent piece of kit, you can alter both length and pitch, the blurb says: " Kinetik Touring takes the same Kinetik concept that revolutionised slalom paddling and offers it in a form specially adapted to touring. Kinetic e...

Peak Adventure Drysuit 2012 vintage – this is the one you get into through the crutch! It is an excellent bit of kit if you want to avoid those “boil in the bag” moments as it is a neoprene neck seal that you can have open for the flat stuff – so ventilates nicely, and then batten down for the rough...

Yes and cannot fault it. Just wish I had done it before I had spent years of putting up with ill fitting / delaminating suits, proves the old adage "buy cheap, buy twice".

Re: BCU Rebranded - British Canoeing

Look its dead simple, the BCU looks enviously at the success of British Cycling, they changed from the British Cycling Federation as they didn't have enough space on the skin suits to write Federation, and look what success followed.
