Re: Insulin pumps - anyone using them whilst paddling?

I'm intrigued to hear how you deal with this Chas, I would also love to hear how you get on with your pump. From what I hear the pumps are fantastic but think I have to stay on my four injections a day until I can work out how to justify the extra cost to my PCT.

It might be worth you posting this on rucc.co.uk which is the Reading Uni Canoe Club's website. I'm sure if they can't help with the room, then they certainly will be able to do with the paddling.

The Ogwen. The Ogwen was a first for me this year too, and rather unusually for me I paddled it before my boyfriend did! I headed up to PYB to do their steep creeking course and it was the first time I'd been in North Wales with more than just enough water to scrape down the Conwy so had a few new ...

Travelling with a kayak and diabetes

Quite a while ago, I linked a questionnaire about diabetes here for my dissertation, which led to some talk about diabetes, kayaking and travelling. Well after quite a while saving up and negotiating with doctors about how best to access insulin, I'm leaving for a 12 month trip on May 2nd. For those...

One thing which improved my confidence when upside down was practising underwater swimming. Knowing how much time I could spend underwater doing something quite active helped put into context how much time I was able to spend upside down when I'd capsized. Pool sessions can be good at playing games ...

I've spoken to them before and remember they certainly won't cover equipment in use, and I have a feeling they cover upto grade 3 white water - best checking with them though! The BMC may be worth checking as another alternative, particularly if you are already a member, they were the best for a tri...

Dry Bags - any recommendations?

After finding the hole in my Exped dry bag, I need to go shopping. I've been recommended the Ortlieb range and want to know what other people think about these and any others. So which dry bags are the best? The one I'm looking to replace at the moment is around 13 litres.

What I find interesting is the number of people who seem to believe a creek boat/higher volume river runner enables someone to float down a river with very little skill. At the moment I'm paddling a Mamba which I love, yes I probably don't need the extra volume for the rivers I'm paddling over here ...

The Prijon Creeker certainly eddies out better than any over boat I've ever paddled (in fact sometimes too well) and for smaller paddlers its worth considering. I know a few people who love them - personally I prefer a flatter hull as that's what I'm used to.

I have a Perception Blaze 6.9 for sale within your budget - its more forgiving than an out and out playboat but is the smallest of the three sizes of that boat available. Its flat hulled and surfs nicely too. Let me know if you're interested and I can send photos.
