Re: Baby friendly Alpine activities / Via Ferrata rental

We've been going to the Southern Alps with young kids for quite a few years, ours are now 6 and 4. Venosc in the Veneon valley works as a great base for us. There is a really nice family friendly campsite which is also right next to a good outdoor swimming pool. The lift from the village (300m away)...

Re: Massif Central rivers (Dordogne, Lot, Tarn) at half-term

Hi, Yes that was us. Yep, we camped by the side of the Lot on our first night and woke up to a big brown river with trees coming down so decided to carry straight on down to the Tarn. I hadn't been there before and was very pleasantly surprised, the section from La Vignes was good fun and the kids l...

Re: Massif Central rivers (Dordogne, Lot, Tarn) at half-term

Thanks for the info all. Yep we are still going, the "Murdoch mis-information machine" normally massively over-exaggerates things like the strikes so i'm sure all will be fine. Planning to do a day on the upper Dordogne at Beaulieu, a couple of days on the Tarn and then see how it goes from there......

Massif Central rivers (Dordogne, Lot, Tarn) at half-term

I've been inspired by Slime's whitewater massif central book to take the kids down at the start of June to do some easy (class II-ish) touring rivers and camping etc. The kids are young (3 and 6) so I want some fun warmish water with very easy rapids. Anyone got any ideas whether rivers like the Dor...

Re: other rivers in briancon area

Surely you mean the lower section of the Veneon down to les Ougiers? This section is great from Venosc at a hearty IV with plenty of water on it. Curiously its the sort of section which chokes up and seems to get trickier at slightly lower levels. I've not done the bit below Les Ougiers but the fren...

Typhoon Multisport 4 drysuit - Medium

Hi, I'm selling my Typhoon Multisport 4 drysuit. I bought it in February and it has only been used 3 times (on the Dart). Rinsed after use and dry stored. It is essentially as-new visually and in function. It is size medium, colour red. Am selling as I don't paddle enough at the moment to warrant ke...

Re: River Lyd - Upper Section to Lydford

I did this with Steve Whetman, Paul Ross and a couple of others a few years ago from GR544880 after a hike up from the bridleway at Southerly. Probably couldn't run form much further up as it was only about 3 ft wide at that point, but channeled well so plenty deep enough. Quite fun, one notable roc...

Open canoe hire in Cornwall

Hi All, I'm looking to hire an open boat in Cornwall so that we can do some paddling with the kids (possibly with a view to buying one at some point). I've been looking around and everywhere seems to hire sit-ons but not proper open boats. A sit on is not really practical with a family of four inclu...

Re: Torrent St Pierre and Torrent d'Ailefroide (aka Upper Gyr)

Hi, I did the St Pierre from the bottom of the cascades (Simon's middle rapid) to Ailefroide this August, water was reasonably high following rain, I guess it might have been simpler in slightly lower water. I agree that it looks emminently doable from the road but what you cant see is all of the wo...

"we didn't bother checking ot the Plym"

Plym was fantastic in the afternoon, jumped on about 2ish, warm, plenty of water and leaves on the trees...no other boaters in sight...things don't get much better!

Felt like the Southern Appalachians had been teleported to Devon!

Just paint it brown, add a set of novelty cow horns to the front and leave it in the middle of a road somewhere.

All the traffic and mayhem will miraculously divert around the new "cow" in the road and it will be guaranteed to be there on you return...

Just an idea..

Yep, i've split and joined a Werner, got the guys at work to turn down a spigot from 6061 aluminium and it fitted really sweetly in the shaft. Bonded it in with Epoxy. Length of the spigot was about 12cm I think. This is definitely possible but obviously the spigot needs to be a snug fit in the cut ...

Also bear in mind that there is a LOT of flatwater, particularly on stuff like the SunKosi and Karnali (I thought the Karnali float out was epic and I was in a Stunt-Bat).

Something with some forward speed and foot comfort may be preferable.

Cheers,
