Re: Replacing lost skeg

I just measured the skeg on my wife's Valley Aquanaut at 4.5mm thickness. The remnants of the breadboard I used (not for the Aquanaut but a Current Designs Sirroco) for my cheap & cheerful replacement is 5 mm thick... Jim is quite right - measure up first and hope that your breadboard isn't as thick...

Re: Replacing lost skeg

I have made a replacement skeg using a nylon (or whatever it is they are made from) breadboard. Cut the board to shape, sand a bit of a profile onto the leading / trailing edges and attached the cable by drilling intersecting holes, one for the cable to lead into and a second, perpendicular to the f...

Re: Mi 370 or sit on top

A little off topic but hopefully useful information... Sadly Windermere, Coniston and Brown Howe in particular has been absolute hell as lockdown has been relaxed. You may struggle to avoid crowds unless you are prepared to get up very early. The road along the east side of Coniston Water has been c...

Re: Mediterranean Kayaking Locations

Contact Stelios at https://www.enjoy-crete.com/ as Two Pigs suggests above. I believe that he now has boats available at Hora Sfakion in the south of the island. I've paddled the island quite extensively, especially in the south, and highly recommend it. Plenty of little fishing villages, tavernas, ...

Rawthey - hazard reported March 2018

Hi all Just received the following info regards a tree obstructing the Rawthey: "Saturday 10th March Rawthey 1.5 on gauge at Brigflatts. Just after the grade 4 rapid at the end of the gorge, the river curves right past a small Island. Hidden from the top a river wide tree." Stay safe folks Barry Cur...

Re: Valley skeg slider -serious skeg post for once

Hi Peter Not upgraded one of these but have replaced the slider (black knob) on an Aquanaut, having obtained a new knob & grub screw one direct from Valley. The old one had started to disintegrate as the grub screw corroded - I drilled the grub screw out and effectively destroyed the old knob in doi...

Re: Reed Chillcheater Aquatherm Dry Trousers

I have a fair bi of Reed kit. Love the compactness of the salopettes & tops but will not buy any more of their gear with feet - it is just not sufficiently durable. I use a change mat and sequence is - sit in boot of estate car; mat down, trainers off, trews off, salopettes on, Lomo paddle boots on....

4 piece Carbon/Carbon Lendal NordKapps

Following more (!) surgery I'm having to look at using smaller blades and give up on my Lendal Nordkapps. These are 4 piece Lendal originals, straight carbon shaft and blades fitted with Varilok joints so adjustable for length and feather and may be set up for left- and right-handers. Length is adju...

P&H Quest in carbon / kevlar

My Quest needs to find a new home! Around 5 years old with a few superficial scuffs reflecting how little she's been used, this is a very competent sea kayak for the larger paddler - and looks stunning! I'm 6' tall and weighed in at the top end of 15 stones when I bought the boat from P&H but recent...

hi Monty Many locals paddlers use Walney Island, Roa Island / Barrow Channel / Leven and Kent estuaries as well as the wider Morecombe Bay - though I don't have much info regarding the southern side of the Bay. Commercial providers use east and west Walney and Roa Island areas for kayak tours and as...

a recent one in Cumbria had to be cancelled due to a lack of interest. Perhaps a little disingenuous; I think Barry will admit that posting the wrong date and giving short notice might have contributed to the lack of response. Notwithstanding that, it may have been due to a lack of interest. I cert...

North Water Turtleback deck bag

Brand new, never been on a boat. This handy deck bag is great for a VHF, sunnies and snacks and can be quickly unclipped from your deck and used as a bum-bag once ashore.

£27 posted in the UK please.
