Re: Retro Fit Recessed Deck Fittings ?

Mask off top of insert with masking tape as well as deck, cut hole, and use thickened resin to embed it in boat smoothing off with a spatula or fingers in rubber glove, with a couple of circles of wetted out 200gm cloth over it. When its set you can sand it nice and smooth and lay a piece of fine ti...

Re: BAs?

Wetsuits are buoyant themselves, due to the closed cell neoprene. I would much rather surf/paddle board/body board in cold water in a 5mm wetsuit than a drysuit with fleece underwear and a BA

Valley colour refs

As Valley's website is proving totally unresponsive to a question submission, has anyone got the RAL colour ref for the red they use for the deck, so I can order some resin in.

Boat in question is a Nordkapp LV

Many thanks,

Mike

Ive just come back from a trip to Doubtful Sound, New Zealand, and the sandflies there are like midges on steroids. I took a can of 'Smidge' developed by the Scottish Midge Forecast people, which I can fully recommend.I only got a few bites on one untreated arm in the tent one night, it is deet free...

Re: Greenland paddle size

I can build a carbon paddle up to 234cm from my moulds, only problem is that the loom length increases, as blade dimensions stay the same. If you have wide shoulders longer length should fit you though. My own paddles are at 218cm and 228cm to give a bit of variety. I can do various layups from full...

Re: retrofitting new hatch types to my old Nordcapp.

I recommend Sikaflex over epoxy, as it has a small amount of flexibility when cured, and epoxy is brittle. Use some rough sandpaper to really roughen up the glueing surface of the rims and the boat to get a better bond. I failed to do this once and the rim came off as I was taking the hatch off..emb...

Sports Direct sell Karrimor dry bags which are identical to Exped ones and cheaper too.
And keep an eye out in Lidl and Aldi, they often have good quality tough bags on offer.

Re: Kayak paddles and flying

I'm converting a split paddle to a 4 piece one to take to New Zealand in March due to the hassle involved with different airlines.
If anyone else is considering doing this, AS Watersports stock the internal spigots and stainless spring locks, and offer a very quick service.

Again, Garmin eTrex will tell you where you are, elapsed time and speed etc.... lots going on eBay for around £50.
Had mine for years, still works great, I don't even bother putting it in a case, hang it round my neck and just make sure I rinse it off when necessary. Lithium batteries are best.
