Leptospirosis River Allan

I'm a part time student at the University of Stirling and I received an email just now warning about Leptospirosis on the River Allan. During the recent spell of hot weather, many people who live locally went swimming in the river at Bridge of Allan, in the Ladies Pool/Darn Walk area. Some of these ...

I have a Mega Impulse . I'm about 90kg as well - no probs with weight. I haven't had it very long, but I LOVE it. I went back out in my G-Force last week and it really reminded me what a difference it makes. I'm in Edinburgh too so if you ever fancy a wee shot, give me a shout. I'm thinking of poppi...

Like the last time, I think we are all excited about the idea. However, do get in touch with Farq to find out all the lessons they learned last time. I'm sure it doesn't all need to be exposed on here but they can probably give you some tips to avoid some serious grief. Your insurance cover is goin...

I have to say; although possibly very fun I think this event/ informal gathering would be irresponsible however it is run. As kayakers we should want to limit our effect on the environment and discourage large numbers from meeting in one spot. Where would people park? Would people all camp in Glen ...

An event was organised by Dave Kwant and friends a while back, Falls-of-Lora on the Saturday, planned for the Etive on Sunday [high water took it to the Nevis]. When the landowners found out, they were none to happy. They did allow, due to short notice, the event to proceed, but were fairly clear t...

Re: Surf

I've been surfing kayaks for 14 years in various locations (Ireland, Scotland, Devon, Morocco) and never experienced any aggro from boardies at all. In fact the only people who have ever irked me on the surf are other kayakers spouting their opinions on what gear I should be wearing, such as... my v...

I just got back from a trip to Morocco with my surf kayak. I phoned easyjet in advance to ask about kayaks as it isn't on their list. I was expecting to have a big tussle on the phone to convince them to allow it but the lady didn't consider it for more than a millisecond, she just said to put it do...

Much of the 'irrational fear' on this thread rings true with me. I have always struggled with inspecting drops. As soon as I'm out looking at it, my natural instinct is to walk. And the longer I look for and decide on the line the more likely I am to miss it. As a result - the Orchy has never been m...

Padding out a surf kayak?

My new Mega Impulse recently arrived and I'm about to take out to Morocco for a few weeks of sun 'n' surf. I was thinking of gluing some padding in around the knees and heels before we go but I'm not sure if I should. So, I thought I'd check with the people who know best - you. Is it ok to evostick ...

Looking for a rash vest type thing...?

I'm going to Morocco soon for a surfing adventure with my new impulse. I don't have a shortie cag and was thinking of getting one. But then I saw a guy on a river recently wearing what looked like a rash vest, but thicker. It was like a t-shirt made out of thin wetsuit material. Does anyone know whe...

Trying out a surf kayak in Scotland

<r>I live in Edinburgh and am thinking of buying a surf kayak. I've never actually paddled one, but I'm sure they would be fantastic. I was just wondering, what ever happened to the plan for a Scottish Artificial Whitewater Course? I've been out of the country for a while and forgot all about it. Flying with a surf kayak?

My wife & I have been surfing our river boats for years. She has recently acquired a surfboard and is dead keen to get into this as well. I'm not keen to get off my arse and would rather keep kayaking in the surf. I am tempted to get myself a surf kayak though as they look fantastic. The one thing a...

How big is your kit bag?

Having recently moved to a flat on the fourth floor (with no lift) I've decided to swap my plastic tub for a dry kit bag/rucksack. I don't know how big a bag I need! If you use one, how many litres do you have? I want to get my helmet, boyancy aid, deck, cag, wetsuit, thermals and towel in it. Any i...

By all accounts it was pretty epic. The river was high. Every single female entrant swam over the finish line.
