Good place to look at old maps of Tryweryn. I think the footpath to the halt might have been under the dam but could be wrong - would need to look harder

Expedition food - help!
Off on an expedition, where we wont have the chance to re supply for 2 weeks. Bear country so have to be careful with foods - ie limited fresh meats / strong smells, and everything has to be safely cached. Just found out that one of the group does not do pasta, or rice/cous cous and limited on spice...

Re: Boat for tiny person
my other half is exactly your size and loves her Isel. The only issue is that the cockpit is massive, it can be a struggle to reach forward far enough to get the deck on. The in built skeg is big, but she appears to have no problem rockhopping the thing. Perhaps floating considerably higher than me ...

If kayaks are deforming, could I ask how tight you are putting the strap? You might be overdoing it a bit.

Palm Bora
Looking at getting a new cag and grateful if anyone has feedback / reviews on the Palm Bora? I had trouble with my last heavier cag - Palm Aleution, but no problems with my more recent lighter weight Palm Arcadia which I use when not likely to be too bad. I do like the look of the peak double and th...

Re: Access Motion to BC AGM
Looks good - great to see the BC President on board with this. Is this a members motion, or is this from the board? If this is having to be a members motion, that is a shame. But, with the Presidents support this should have a good shout at being passed. Re charging to cross land, should a comment r...

What deck for an aries?
Just wondering if people have any recommendations re a deck for the Aries 155? I am currenly using an old pyranha deck. Initially thinking of a Peak Explorer (not sure if I need the elastics / grippy underside) and will need to check what size, but just open to ideas as to what is hot - ie watertigh...

Re: Replace footplate with footpegs...?
As an alternative;
Why not try building up two foot pads on the footplate. Use sticky backed foam padding.
This should leave a gap in the middle to stretch out if needed.
Could be less effort than replacing the current system

Re: What size shock cord?
For the grab handle cord I would tend to use normal cord - same size as decklines.
Shockcord will just bounce the boat around whilst carrying it.

Re: Cetus lv
Only small, size 5 and generally petite.
I dont think cockpit size is an issue, it's purely what the carrying capacity is for a 2 week trip. I would hate to rock up with two weeks supplies (no booze and we do generally pack lightish) and struggle to get the munchies in.

Whittier to Valdeez, takes as long as you need but at least a few days, and then ferry back to start.

Re: Access and facility charging at Canolfan Tryweryn
As suggested in CW's letter and Adrian Cooper's post above it may not actually be as cut and dried as that though. Granted it would be simpler if it was, but if this was any other land owner claiming that the only access was across his land for which a charge was payable, you can be sure that we wo...

Re: Access and facility charging at Canolfan Tryweryn
It's not easy to solve, with wording that doesn't lead to landowners introducing charges everywhere for paddlers to launch. The problem at CT is that not eveyone uses or wants to use the facilities beyond the car park, so why are we being charged for the facilities that are not needed or used? But, ...

Re: Access and facility charging at Canolfan Tryweryn
I haven't recently found a map I spotted a couple of years ago but, on the basis that 'once a highway, always a highway', I suspect there is a route to the river. The current route of the A4212 is clearly recent and there would always have been a road up the valley to Capel Celyn. The route through...

Re: Access and facility charging at Canolfan Tryweryn
I am surprised that, given the importance of access, this was declined as a topic to be discussed. CT is a strange one, as it is clearly a managed resource and needs funding. BUT, The problem re our the fight for access is: CT allows free access to non paddlers to walk beside the river, stand on the...

Re: The benefits of BCU membership
Agree with the above. My comments related to the fact that they dont really appear to understand why people join / dont join. IE we join because we have to (coaches / competitors), and we dont join because they appear to lack focus on recreational members of running an efffective access campaign. Si...

The benefits of BCU membership
BC, I still prefer when we were a Union, are asking about changes to the membership - values, benefits, types etc. Let them know what you think of their options. Are they good worthy suggestions, could they be further improved, are they really addressing why recreational paddlers wanting more access...
