Re: Sea Kayak wanted

Yes, happy to let you have photos.

Only problem is the kayak is stored in a garage with no light, and an operation last Wednesday means I can’t move it outside for seven days. Hope it’s ok if I send them on Thursday?

Re: Sea Kayak wanted

My Aquila is a high volume fibreglass boat and is for sale. Valley exported a lot of them to the US where they were popular with bigger paddlers. Mine is in good condition with a working skeg and watertight hatches. Repairs have been done professionally. A pump is deck-mounted. I’m in Peterborough w...

You’re quite right, Chris - my post does not attempt to answer the OP’s question.

Others have had a good crack at that; I was addressing a much simpler problem.

I got tired of messing up my knife and so I bought one of these to unjam skegs.

Available from all good bike shops.

Re: Touring kayak suggestions for larger kayakers?

I’m selling my fibreglass Valley Aquila which has loads of room.

It has been professionally repaired, has a working skeg, three watertight hatches, and has always been stored inside.

I’m 6ft 2 with size 13 feet so it would fit you fine. Asking £800.

Re: Good Head Torch Recommendations ?

Not sure how critical salt water resistance is for a headtorch.

If I were rolling or taking a swim, I’d be more worried about my torch getting lost than it leaking.

Re: Good Head Torch Recommendations ?

Open Air in Cambridge have a great offer on Black Diamond's Spot headlamps which they reckon to work for 30 minutes under 1.1m of water, and cost £22.

I ordered online and mine has just arrived.

Re: Recommendations for VHF radio and PLB

When you’re buying a vhf it’s worth thinking about how you’re going to carry it on your person.

My Icon M71 has served me well for ten years, but it is on the large side and doesn’t fit easily in the pocket of my BA.

Re: Paddle shaft crack

I have a pair of VE Paddles splits, and put a crack in the end of one. I feared disaster but the repair proved easy and effective. I bought a short length of carbon fibre tube on eBay, roughed it up with sand paper, and then araldited it to stick inside the damaged end. That added almost nothing to...

You might want to check out Lollystix Paddles on Fbk.

They’re made by Barry Izard who combines hard and softwoods to produce gorgeous looking paddles. He’s based in Essex.

When I’m practicing my rolls on the sea I try wear my Reed hood. It doesn’t keep the water out but it does stop water being suddenly forced into my ears.

Touch wood - that seems to have protected the so far.

Tiderace Xtra for sale. HV - now sold

This terrific boat is the kayaking equivalent of a Maserati, and I’m only selling it because at 6ft2 the fit is a bit too tight for me and my size 13 feet. It is almost new and has had very little use. While there are scratches and scuffs to the hull they’re so minor the photos may not show them. Th...

Savvy Navvy

Is anyone using the Savvy Navvy app and, if so, how do they rate it? Adverts keep popping up on my Fbk page promising an app that combines weather, tidal flows and navigation info. I might have downloaded it but, with subscriptions starting at £35 pa, it’s not cheap. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/sa...

Highly recommended.

I think Karitek are great, too, and I haven’t forgotten a visit to the Isle of Man when I was struggling with a trolley which kept collapsing under my boat. Finally, I phoned Anne at Karitek to ask if she would email me a copy of the manual. No, She wouldn’t hear of it - a replacement trolley would ...

Big one

I’m selling my Valley Aquila sea kayak, and am asking £1,200. What makes this boat stand out is its size - it’s one of highest volume sea kayaks ever made. That makes it ideal for an extra large paddler (I’m 6ft2 and have loads of room). It’s also a great boat to load up for an expedition. I’ve had ...

Re: Demo boats in the East of England

Desperate Measures in Nottingham could be worth a try; they do sea boats. There's also a place on the Thames (Shepperton perhaps), near Heathrow - Canoe the Whitewater Centre(?). In east London on the Thames Mikhail and Natalie Maderova are Tiderace dealers.

Good luck.
