Re: Deckbag and a simple BA?

Works for me - in fact, I wouldn’t be without mine. But I appreciate it’s all a matter of individual judgment.

Something else that might do the trick and has just become available is https://www.whetmanequipment.com/store/ ... tcher.html

Re: Glue for fibre glass?

Excellent advice, Chris - thankyou. I’m pretty sure the shaft is glass - at least, glass is what Stu of VE Paddles recommended and glass is what it says on his invoice. But I’m guessing carbon will make a good repair so I may well buy from your eBay seller. With luck, I’ll have it finished in time f...

Re: Glue for fibre glass?

Had a second read of your post, Jim, and https://designcomposites.com/ seems just what I need.

I’ve emailed them to ask what they recommend - and can supply - for a spigot.

Big thanks

Re: Glue for fibre glass?

Great advice folks - many thanks. I particularly like Jim’s advice, and I’m inclined to glue a 100mm length of 25mm tubing inside the damaged end. I can get hold of aluminium but would prefer tubing that matches the glass shaft so I wonder if anyone can tell me where in the UK I might buy a short se...

Re: Glue for fibre glass?

Thanks Chris. Will look for West 105, though it does sound a very tricky repair; the two halves are machined to such tight dimensions. Have followed your suggestion, Rog, and emailed Stu of VE Paddles. If he can sort it out then I shall be relieved. But perhaps there’s somebody else who can be relie...

Glue for fibre glass?

I’ve damaged my VE paddle, and have split the male end of a split. It’s a glass shaft and look as though it could easily be glued. I was going to use Araldite but my online search makes me think it’s unsuitable for the job, and all I can find is information about large scale industrial uses. So I’m ...

Towing eyes

Like many others, I’ve been in the habit of using my car’s towing eye to attach the bow of boats on my car roof. I think of it as insurance - should either roof rack or straps fail, then the extra tie still stops boats flying off and through another car’s windscreen. Now, however, I’m having second ...

Fantastic!

Just had a lovely new Platypus delivered after I returned my old one when it sprung a leak after a considerable amount of wear and tear.

So big thanks to Cascade Designs for five star customer service. What a great advert for MSR, Therm-a-Rest, Seal Line drybags and their other goodies.

Same problem here.

I just followed the advice on this page, cleaned the terminals, and hey presto - problem solved.

No need for a new battery, and no need to trouble Icom. I’m delighted.

Thanks folks

Re: Scorpio HV or MV

If it’s roominess that counts, then you might consider a composite Northshore Atlantic. I’m 6ft2, nearly 15 stone and have size 13 feet, and I’m comfortable in mine. The one drawback for me is cockpit length - I struggle to get my knees out easily. But that may be down to body proportions rather tha...

Excellent report, Allan - many thanks I saw it on Fbk earlier, shared it, but decided that wasn’t enough and, having been warned, I had no excuse for paddling without a PLB. This one has a seven-year battery life which sold it to me. I’m expecting delivery this morning. https://www.force4.co.uk/ocea...

Thanks for the info, PlymouthDamo - that’s helpful. System X told me they could only service Kokatat and not Sweet suits because the technology is different. Now that sounds as though it might have been bullshit. And Mr Ed, it sounds as though you and I were thinking along similar lines. If Hammond ...

Re: Sweet Protection drysuits

Thanks all for suggestions. The choice has not been easy. I’ve felt like the owner of a new car who can only get it serviced by the garage up the local side street. Far better had Sweet Protection got its act together and organised some UK customer services. Instead, their head office recommended Re...

Aquapac - Customer service

Another company that takes the trouble to keep customers happy.

I punctured the Aquapac case I use for my Vhf so I appealed to the company for help. The result? They sent me some patches which arrived next day.

They work a treat and there was no charge.

Brilliant!

Re: north norfolk easy sea kayak venue for 21st / 22nd Oct

I’ve paddled in that area and reckon Burnham Staithe is a good place to launch; access and parking are easy and there are no charges. You’re unlikely to encounter much in the way of swell or tidal flow so conditions will generally be benign (though I suspect next weekend will be close to springs). B...

Re: Tall and advice needed!

Another factor to consider is cockpit length.

Ideally, you want to be able to get your legs out of the boat without having to perch on the back deck or lean right back (as I have to when exiting my Atlantic).

My next boat will be one with a longer cockpit.

Re: Tall and advice needed!

I’m 6ft2 and find many boats impossibly small. But I am the owner of a Northshore Atlantic and not only is it comfortable, it would probably fit a bigger paddler. If it’s a fibreglass boat you want, then the Atlantic is one of the less expensive ones. The plastic version is likely to be cheaper stil...

A six-step recovery plan - that should keep me busy well into 2018. Very many thanks for your kindness, Douglas. And thanks, too, for that strap recommendation, dc9mm. Re: Tendinitis - advice?

Wow! What great feedback - thanks to one and all. Replies seem to agree on one point - that my injuries are likely to be a symptom of a broader problem. In my case, I suspect that’s to do with posture and a weak core - things I must work on. And once I’m back in a boat I’ll also get someone to have ...

Tendinitis - advice?

Early in September I tried paddling round the Isle of Wight but our trip plan was too ambitious and I’m left with two painful elbows. Since then a physio has given me excercises which seem to make no difference, and a GP-friend suggested rest is the only cure. I’d love to get back in my boat but at ...
