Re: Ears

When I’m practicing my rolls on the sea I try wear my Reed hood. It doesn’t keep the water out but it does stop water being suddenly forced into my ears.

Touch wood - that seems to have protected the so far.

Tiderace Xtra for sale. HV - now sold

This terrific boat is the kayaking equivalent of a Maserati, and I’m only selling it because at 6ft2 the fit is a bit too tight for me and my size 13 feet. It is almost new and has had very little use. While there are scratches and scuffs to the hull they’re so minor the photos may not show them. Th...

Savvy Navvy

Is anyone using the Savvy Navvy app and, if so, how do they rate it? Adverts keep popping up on my Fbk page promising an app that combines weather, tidal flows and navigation info. I might have downloaded it but, with subscriptions starting at £35 pa, it’s not cheap. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/sa...

Adriana from https://www.exploraexpeditions.com/ithacabreak gets my vote.

People keep going back because everything is top quality - coaching and guiding, location, boats, and the atmosphere.

Highly recommended.

Re: Karitek - exceptional customer service

I think Karitek are great, too, and I haven’t forgotten a visit to the Isle of Man when I was struggling with a trolley which kept collapsing under my boat. Finally, I phoned Anne at Karitek to ask if she would email me a copy of the manual. No, She wouldn’t hear of it - a replacement trolley would ...

Big one

I’m selling my Valley Aquila sea kayak, and am asking £1,200. What makes this boat stand out is its size - it’s one of highest volume sea kayaks ever made. That makes it ideal for an extra large paddler (I’m 6ft2 and have loads of room). It’s also a great boat to load up for an expedition. I’ve had ...

Re: Should I get a Valley Sirona RM or a Zegul Arrow Play? (Nuka?)

I’m also interested in the Zegul Arrow Play and contacted the UK wholesaler, asking about UK retailers. Here’s the answer from Lyon Equipment - “We distribute Zegul in the U.K. to the following retailers; “Up and Under “www.upandunder.co.uk “NS Watersports “www.nswatersports.co.uk “Sea Kayak Oban “w...

Re: Demo boats in the East of England

Desperate Measures in Nottingham could be worth a try; they do sea boats. There's also a place on the Thames (Shepperton perhaps), near Heathrow - Canoe the Whitewater Centre(?). In east London on the Thames Mikhail and Natalie Maderova are Tiderace dealers.

Good luck.

Works for me - in fact, I wouldn’t be without mine. But I appreciate it’s all a matter of individual judgment.

Something else that might do the trick and has just become available is https://www.whetmanequipment.com/store/ ... tcher.html

Re: Glue for fibre glass?

Excellent advice, Chris - thankyou. I’m pretty sure the shaft is glass - at least, glass is what Stu of VE Paddles recommended and glass is what it says on his invoice. But I’m guessing carbon will make a good repair so I may well buy from your eBay seller. With luck, I’ll have it finished in time f...

Re: Glue for fibre glass?

Great advice folks - many thanks. I particularly like Jim’s advice, and I’m inclined to glue a 100mm length of 25mm tubing inside the damaged end. I can get hold of aluminium but would prefer tubing that matches the glass shaft so I wonder if anyone can tell me where in the UK I might buy a short se...

Re: Glue for fibre glass?

Thanks Chris. Will look for West 105, though it does sound a very tricky repair; the two halves are machined to such tight dimensions. Have followed your suggestion, Rog, and emailed Stu of VE Paddles. If he can sort it out then I shall be relieved. But perhaps there’s somebody else who can be relie...

Glue for fibre glass?

I’ve damaged my VE paddle, and have split the male end of a split. It’s a glass shaft and look as though it could easily be glued. I was going to use Araldite but my online search makes me think it’s unsuitable for the job, and all I can find is information about large scale industrial uses. So I’m ...

Towing eyes

Like many others, I’ve been in the habit of using my car’s towing eye to attach the bow of boats on my car roof. I think of it as insurance - should either roof rack or straps fail, then the extra tie still stops boats flying off and through another car’s windscreen. Now, however, I’m having second ...

Re: Scorpio HV or MV

If it’s roominess that counts, then you might consider a composite Northshore Atlantic. I’m 6ft2, nearly 15 stone and have size 13 feet, and I’m comfortable in mine. The one drawback for me is cockpit length - I struggle to get my knees out easily. But that may be down to body proportions rather tha...
