Re: River Blackwater - Greys Mill to Langford

I have received reports via a third party of issues between paddlers and the landowner at one of the portages in the Kelvedon to Langford section. The landowner claims that they have been physically threatened by paddlers, if this is the case it is obviously unacceptable. The incident (or incidents)...

Kayakers rescued from Bitches Reif in Ramsey Sound.

Sr Davids lifeboat assistec four kayakers in difficulties in Ramsey Sound. The lifeboats were launched after coastguards at Milford Haven received a call from the kayakers to say that one of the kayaks had been holed by rocks on the Bitches reef and was rapidly filling with water - they would be una...

As I'm only 5'6" and seventy kg I'm looking for a boat with small cockpit, lowish volume. Most boats seem to be designed with bigger people in mind.
You should look out for an Avocet LV, my wife paddles one, she is a simalar size. A Rockpool Isel may be worth a look.

Re: Do we even need a grading system any more?

I guess my point is if you could paddle a river youve not seen or heard of before, would you rather see a vid of it to get an idea or heat that its a grade x of whatever character? As the exploration side of running a new river is the main goal for me, I would go with the aproxiamte grade and chara...

Re: Left-handed paddlers

I'm generally confused when it comes to dominance hand, foot and eye, so the fact that I am right handed (mostly) and use a left handed blade seems quite natural to me. I learnt with a 90 degree feather, so there was not coaching bias in my case. I would recommend people learn with a right handed bl...

Metal zips need fat (spray, oil, grease).
Do not use petroleum based lubricants on the zip , it may damage the fabric, use Beeswax.

Re: River Perth - New Zealand

Thanks for posting, I have fond memories of paddling the West Cost 10+ years ago. Looking at the video reminds me my choice of boat back then was sub-optimal (Pyranha I3), which did mean I portaged at least one drop.

Re: River Severn - Shrewsbury to Ironbridge

I do not know the area, but back in March 2018 I was forwarded ( vi Ben Seal - BC Places To Paddle), a message from a director at Merrythought. The message was regarding access to a river somewhere. I can only guess that the access issue is related to this section as the business contact address for...

Ignoring the numerous car key incidents over the years including the one caused by taking a spare key to avoid a car key incident. Most of the cock-up I've been involved with involve a certain Mark R, I don't blame him its just I paddle with him a lot. I will exclude incidents outside our control li...

Suboptimal trip end - Medway Forts

On Sunday we explored the Fort Darnet and Fort Hoo in the Medway, the is a fantastic little trip however there was one thing which we may have done differently. https://media.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/uploads/215/1541487429355-0922.png https://media.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/uploads/215/1541487443547-37...

Re: Infinity Wezzit

From what I remember the Calancasca was a good Grade 4+ (medium levels) roadside, it starts Grade 5. Some choss in the river past a quarry, but mostly excellent. I have no idea how the levels work, www.rivermap.ch said it was good to go and it was. https://media.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/uploads/215/1...

I'm a numpty, the Calancasca is in Switzerland, I should have checked my notes. It's infamous for having no water. We were lucky to catch it back in May traveling between Italy and Switzerland.
