Re: GCSE P.E. - Kayaking

Hey Neil, what exam board is she going through? As the school does not offer kayaking internally, then as long as your daughter is participating regularly in kayaking, then the teacher should be able to get assistance from the coach (you in this case) to acertain what level (usually 0 - 10) your dau...

But I think if someone who spots trains is called a train spotter then you can be called a Pier Spotter.

Plastic welder near swindon?

I have tried repairing my boat, it went out on a few trips but my welding attempt was not successful. Does anyone (or is), know of a plastic welder near Swindon who can do a bomber job?

I would like to take my boat to Scotland on the 27th Oct, I have a prion invader as a back up.

Re: Thoughts on giving fluids to shock/hypothermia person!

I would see nothing wrong with giving someone with "shock" fluids unless they have an injury or condition which needs operating. The real name for this is Acute Stress Reaction (ASR) and the treatment is reassurance. If a cup of tea helps .... With Hypothermia you prevent further heat loss and gradu...

Re: North Fork Payette - record high in June 2010

I ran it in 04 during a road trip in the states with 3 others. In our naivety we had no idea of its reputation and just read and run it, it looked a great roadside run and was. I think the below pictures show the golf course with Jacobs ladder at the very top. We were very lucky that at the level we...

Re: West Dart concerns

Mapping gravel beds may also be difficult as they move. Just avoid gravel beds by not launching on them, paddling over them in low water, walking on them heaven forbid you fall out your boat. If an appropriate launch site is developed/built for the West Dart and the Upper that will help. Perhaps eve...

Re: Fish Have Rights

I paddled on a river in Washington called the Sultan. The salmon were literally landing on my boat to get upstream, they did not look too scared to me. It was me that was initially scared when the 1st 2ft torpedo flew at me. As we progressed further down the river, the amount of fish grew in massive...

Last week following a site meeting between DNPA/Patrick Simpson and Mike Maslin of the EA at Dartmeet, agreed to go ahead with a purpose built canoe access point directly below the bridge. Cool picture. Is that on the normal Upper Hoki run (rather than the Mungo)? Don't remember it. (Though the river does change from season to season!) Is it the one just below Argonath? or just before the second big gorge (just before Argonath)? That pic was taken on the normal upper run. You had a c...

I'm told the upper Hoki is epic hard. It is epic hard if you run Mungo, the creek above the Upper. The Upper Hoki is hard and does have a few must run rapids (partially blind), this being one of them ..... http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2106/46/75/608562679/n608562679_1845208_7828.jpg...

Can I lop 17 1/2cm off each end? That way when I paddle it the water will go in one end and out the other so I don't fill up and sink.

Simple Z-drag (no prussic): Set an anchor around a tree or rock using a sling and attach a locking carabineer. Then put a locking carabineer on the end loop of the boat and another on the end of your throw rope (where the loop/knot is). Put the loose end of the rope through the anchor carabineer and...

Re: Technique: How to stomp

From my experience of stomping, you do a super boof off the lip of a drop and fly out far and flat, then you throw your legs down to try and get a 45 degree ish landing. I've never quite got this. The boof closes the angle between legs and body and the stomp then opens it, leaving you sitting uprig...
