Re: River Dee - Ty Mawr Country Park to Overton Bridge

The Boat is now open for business again and paddlers are welcome to use the overflow car park whilst running the river. ..Please keep cars to a minimum and launch/land at the front door of the pub rather than by the overflow car park. The beer is excellent! So is the food!

Orion fibreglass sea kayak

Shrewsbury canoe club is selling this boat. Old but in good condition. Fitted pump. Would suit a taller paddler moving on from a stable first boat to something faster/more challenging £250 ONO. https://media.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/uploads/2094/1564308882746-9235.png https://media.ukriversguidebook....

plastic cappella for sale

The "square hatch" version of the cappella; cable skeg and hatch covers all in good order. No splits or welds. When fitting new thigh grips a while ago i had to drill out a bolt and slightly enlarged the hole in the plastic by mistake, hence the blue plastic "washer" in a photo. cosmetic blemish onl...

Re: Anyone running new Personal Performance Awards?

We wondered what other clubs were doing in terms of how they run the sessions, and what they would typically (obviously the awards are very individual, so the answer can only ever be general) expect people to know / be able to do at 'Discover' and 'Explore' level? I would be interested to know whet...

Club liability insurance from BC

From time to time we get threads on here about the scope of the insurance cover provided by BC to affiliated clubs and their members so this may be of interest. At a recent coaching matters forum conflicting opinions were expressed about the scope of the insurance cover. Since the issues raised were...

When you have done the module and had a look at the syllabi etc I would be interested to hear your views about the new scheme. As a club we have trained our novices at our weekly sessions with groups being pretty flexible in make up and likely to get a different coach each week. Then if members want...

I know nothing about tidal influence in the New Cut but you seem to be saying that you will do the whole trip on a single ebbing tide which i do not u nderstand. Have a look at the Borads authority we bsite for details of LW?HW at various points along your way. http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boa...

Can't help with choosing a particular broker or insurance company but whereever you end up you need to be clear what you want and what you are getting: 3rd party cover. How much cover? A couple of posts have raised the question: do clubs and club leaders get sued? The short answer is "Yes, they do." Anyone involved in running a club has a very real interest in seeing that it is clear to all concerned whether any particular trip is an activity of the club or just a private paddle o...

lost paddle on Serpents Tail

A mate lost his paddle at Serpent's Tail on the River Dee at Llangollen yesterday -He thinks it's wedged between a couple of rocks on the riverbed between the two main lower drops. It's a red Adventure Technology crank-shafted paddle with repaired blades. If anybody finds it, please let me know

Just to ask a dumb question in response to the OP: Since you are apparently being driven to buy a new boat by the lack of roof bars on your new car you do know that clip on roof bars fit on any car with 4 doors and inflatable bars will fit on a c ar with 2 doors as long as it has opening windows by ...

My Club is loooking at changing its admin systems to a new provider ( which might in time be the new management system now being developed by BC). See JimKrawiecki's book on sea kayak routes in the north of england. It gives a voyage from Crosby up to the Runcorn area. Not a place for a novice without competent leadership as far as I can see. Liverpool Canoe CLub would be worth talking to.

Re: BCU insurance - leading youths

I thiknthe BCU coach you quoted in the OP is wrong.

You are an individual BCU member ( not just a member of an affiliated club) and you are not leading on a commercial basis. You are insured against 3rd party liability.. SImple as that in my opinion.

To pick up on a question in the OP: surely you are better to go for assessemnt with an assessor you do not already know and on rivers you do not already know.
