Re: RIVER CLYWEDOG
Paddled on 19th Dec 2021 at 0.76. First rapid was pretty clear, with a tree trunk river right, but well off line. Loads of low trees and branches along the whole route. Around 1km downstream was a full river wide tree giving rise to an overgrown portage on river left. Plenty of other tree sneaks. At...

Anyone know the current situation with water/hydro on this river. Heading north soon and it's on the list to revisit.

Re: Traveling to o from EU with your kayak in the car?
That’s just goods purchased outside the UK, it’s fairly easy to demonstrate that you’re taking it both ways. You’ll have a car full of used paddling kit, camping kit etc.

Gorge Scrambling in Snowdonia
I thought I would consult the collective expertise of the forum! I'm up in North Wales for a week next week and doing some research on stuff to do. I'm looking for some small streams or rivers to do some fairly easy gorge scrambling or canyoning? Anyone have any recommendations? I've a good few deca...

I’ve not noticed a pool around the waist with him in a neoprene deck. My gut feeling is he doesn’t have one at all or it is insignificant in size. Certainly it doesn’t seep through if there is one

Re: kids BA vs spraydeck
We've had exactly the same experience and used the same solution of putting the deck over the BA, similarly it also means he can continue with the leg straps. Almost by accident though in the last few months I've got him into a neoprene deck which has changed the game for him. One of my old decks, (...

Which replacement drain plug for a Robson kayak
My son lost the drain bung for his Robson Supersonic yesterday. I can't find anywhere that specifically sells Robson spares. Anyone know if the Pyranha, Dagger or other replacements available on the market will fit a Robson. The hole is molded / cut straight into the boat, rather than being a fitted...

Re: Your best cock-up (not carnage)
Many, many moons ago, paddling in the Alps as a University Club trip , although I forget the river. It was the clubs first trip out there and I was the only one who had paddled out there before. I would diligently read the guidebook each morning and push everyone else to, though they rarely did. I m...

Re: Safetrx - New CG and RYA vessel registration and tracking system
I'd echo that, from the demonstration I saw, the CG will not actively monitor any vessel and not react to an overdue or battery alert. They will ONLY respond to a summons for assistance from a vessel or a concerned point of contact and then use the data they can see to assist in launching assets to ...

Re: Tall and advice needed!
Hello Stuart, A few questions, to let us help you: What sort of kayaking experience to do have? Are you looking at trips of a few hours, all day, over night? What sort of budget are you looking at? The best advice is always to find a local club near you and pop along to meet the people there. Not on...

Re: Safetrx - New CG and RYA vessel registration and tracking system
Two updates: I was fortunate enough to visit the Ops Room at Milford Haven Coastguard at the weekend, who gave me a demo on the system. They seem impressed with it and can see all live journeys taking place. There were a couple of vessels inland that appeared to demonstrate someone had a boat on a r...

Safetrx - New CG and RYA vessel registration and tracking system
I've stumbled across this today: http://hmcoastguard.blogspot.com/ App based registration, route plan and tracking system. It appears to be due to replace the CG66 registration scheme and although previously only free for RYA members, now appears to be free for the general public. Has anyone used it?

Giving an aging boat a new lease of life
Hi all, I'm pretty new to the salty stuff and boats that aren't made out of Tupperware. I purchased my first sea kayak, a Valley Nordkapp HM a few months ago and now the weather is warming up, I'm beginning to get out it in more. After around 90 minutes on the water, I get anywhere between a shot gl...

Thames levels next week near Abingdon?
I’m spending a week away with the family on thames next week. We’re staying between Dorchester and Abingdon. With current water levels, is it worth taking may sea kayak or open boat. Will we make any headway upstream or will the flow be too strong?
