Having a fantastic time out here at the mo, but please note that the Gyr needs careful inspection for trees at the mo, it has more than it's fair share!

Err, might be obvious, but why not buy from two separate shops then? I can second the fun float, they fit and work really well, and mine seem really tough.

Sooner you than me!
I've had a swan sneak up and peck me when I was stern stalling. However the splashing technique has always worked to repel them, Works on geese too.

Call a taxi! Far cheaper than taking a second car. Make sure you're not dripping wet though, obviously.

For me, it was Lea Valley. A bit sad, but getting on it was a big moment for me personally, due to it being the first real whitewater following a nearly three month paddling break after a broken collar bone.

Re: Experience of using kayaking knife in emergency?

Well what else would I use to spread a Dairylea triangle on my bagette? B And I use my throw line as a tow rope on my car when I need to. (I don't really.) People who misuse emergency equipment like this really annoy me. I agree in principle, and would go along with not using a throw line as a tow ...

Life insurance for paddlers/climbers

I'm buying a house at the mo, and Legal and General want to increase my monthly payment from £20 to £70 per month for life and critical illness cover (for two of us, 33 and 36) as I climb and paddle. This seems a tad steep to me. I can accept that there will be a small increase, but can anyone recomm...

River Evenlode

I'm on a family trip to the Cotswolds next weekend, staying in Charlbury. Looking for somewhere for a gentle paddle. There seems to be a Charlbury canoe club, but info seems to be limited. The Evenlode seems like the closest option. Anyone have any information or advice on access and what its like? ...

Re: Jackson "Hero" Old design - anyone know anything?

I found them to be a not bad small/medium paddlers river boat. I've paddled one and I think I was pushing it at twelve stone. My smaller friends however love them and paddle up to the likes of the Gyr and the middle Guil in one.

Re: Buying a dry suit or a boat

Assuming they have a dry cag and trousers (or similar winter paddling kit) already, I would go with the boat. After all, you can go out in the boat without a drysuit, but not in the drysuit without a boat! Plus Summers on the way, I don't tend to wear a drysuit much into April anyway, so you'll get ...

A slalom boat is designed to fit under slalom gates, hence the low volume and flat decks, as well as being fast and maneuverable.

Unlike most of those posting, I do enter the occasional freestyle comp. I'm not the best boater, but I still always have a good time. However, I get arguably more pleasure out of a fun, low key event such as Kingfishers Blastathon as I do from those run to ICC rules. Maybe the Jam style event used o...

The Gyr, late afternoon on a baking hot day, about a foot higher than I had paddled it before. Followed by beers at the Bar Alphand at the finish to try and quell the adrenaline shakes!
