Re: River Barle - Tarr Steps to Exe Confluence

The tree 500m above the lunch/wave spot is still there. A portage at today's high levels.

Re: River Barle - Tarr Steps to Exe Confluence

Paddled Tarr Steps down today (12/12/15). There is a river wide tree around 500m above the bridge and the wave that some groups use as a lunch stop, around half way down the section. Passable at low flows today.

Re: River Tavy - Tavistock to Denham Bridge

Paddled the Lower Tavy today (06/11/15). There was a tree at the end of the rapid soon after the Walkham confluence (referred to as the biggest rapid on the section in the guide). It was mostly covered, but just visible, at a good medium level today.

Re: Soča river fee?

You do need a pass. I was told by some German paddlers there that they had been stopped and checked. We got passes from Tourist Information in Bovec and the Prijon shop. Other places, like campsites and rafting centres, might also sell them. I think they were around 2 or 3 Euros a day and something ...

Re: River Barle Tarr Steps- Dulverton

The river wide tree above the play wave has moved since Friday. Paddled today (04/01/15) and it has swung round. It is still touching the river right bank but there was a reasonably big route through down the left. There was still timber hanging above the river left route. The whole thing looks like...

I found the step up in size between the 8.5 and the 9.0 to be huge. I happened to fall in the middle of this gap. Why don't they make an 8.75?

Holne Weir changes

Paddled the Loop today (26/12/13) and Holne Weir has changed. The river left side has collapsed and is now more of a long ramp. I could see some metalwork sticking up from the debris.

Re: stolen from bristol garage-boats, paddles & cags.

I live in Bristol. I was paddling on the Avon a few days ago and in the car park afterwards a friendly old gent told me that he had recently seen a blue canoe (or kayak, he wasn't a paddler) floating by on its own. This was around a mile upstream of Netham Weir at the Conham River Park car park. Hop...

Morsey, why would a degreaser help for a new paddle?

I don't like the mess that wax makes. Is there any reason not to sand it and will it work to make it grippy?

Slippery paddle shafts

Some paddle shafts have a slippery, gloss finish. It seems most common in carbon shafts. Is there any reason not to sand off the gloss finish? If anyone has done this does it work to make it less slippery?

Re: Adding Thigh Braces to a Dagger Dynamo

Dynamos are designed so that thigh grips can be fitted. Dagger manufacture them (or at least used to). We bought Dynamos for our children some years ago and then added thigh grips bought from a local shop and kindly fitted by Palm.

Re: CRB for BCU?

Have you looked into using a Portability form? I have not done this but I think you can get Canoe England to send a portability form to whoever you did your DofE CRB with. This means they are requesting that the DofE people verify that you are who you are and no concerns arose on the disclosure. Try...

Re: What's wrong with the SW?

I paddled the Barle from Withypool twice around two years ago. My memory is that there was nothing on it any harder than on the Tarr Steps section. i.e. Grade 2. There is public parking and good launching on river right upstream of the road bridge. I assumed that the cable above Tarr Steps was to ca...

Boat repairer

Does anyone know of a plastic welder who repairs boats in the Bristol area? Its a several inches long split in the hull of a Nomad. I like the look of the welds that are reinforced with a metal mesh.
