Re: Water Temperatures

Been swimming in the chlorine pit since my last post, basically pool km's for calorie burning. I use a snorkel mask (Easybreath) so I swim lengths underwater listening to music via my bone-conduction mp3 headset. I've been encouraged to go outdoors again but the problem is, I don't have transport. H...

Re: Water Temperatures

Not been swimming outdoors very much hence no fresh posts - basically been confined to the chlorine pit. Will repost as soon the opportunity presents itself.

Re: Rain

Well, today's micro heatwave was a nice present given the past few weeks of this hitherto dismal summer, with overnight minima possibly >20C. However we have all the ingredients for a couple of days' fireworks as cooler air comes into conflict with the mini Spanish plume of hot air covering us. At 8...

Re: Rain

Thought it may be a good idea to resurrect this thread, I only stopped posting because I was silly enough to have a stroke. During the intervening years if anything the Great(?) British "Summer" has become increasingly vile. Still got the very same problem five years later: the polar jet stream just...

Re: Water Temperatures

River Dee, Llangollen, N.Wales 9th July '16: 17C (64F) A dull, dreary day and the river was also in a bad mood because of all the rain this past few weeks. Level was up with much of the flat rocks submerged - the river almost in spate. Water slightly turbid. We stuck to dipping in the shallows beca...

Re: Pics on my thread.

Thanks guys, problem seems to have been sorted but it could still be a problem that Mark might have to look into. I've just posted on my thread, including photos, using Chrome and adding the images caused no problems. I usually use Firefox but I neglected to turn off automatic updating - the problem...

River Nene, Wansford, Cambridgeshire 21st June '15: 21C (70F) This was taken where the A1 crosses the Nene at Wansford, on the A47 between Wisbech and Peterborough. Moderate current and somewhat muddy however quite warm at 21C. Muddy bed and deep close to the edge, my mate on the bank had to help m...

River Cherwell, Upper Hayford, Oxon 7th June '16: 18C (64F) A small, fast flowing river with variable depth. Water very clear and obviously well stocked with fish given the number who bumped into and/or nibbled me. Bed is a mix of sand and mud which is quite deep and very sticky if you're in bare f...

Pics on my thread.

I've got some river entries to make on my "Water Temp" thread but every time I try to preview my post complete with images I get "Access Forbidden" and when I click "back" all of my content has been wiped. I was attempting to upload images of 800x600 resolution which I always use. I've got to post t...

Hello. Nice to see some river pictures on this thread again. Do you have any temperatures for recent dates this year? Thanks Yes, and welcome to the forums. River Medway, Maidstone town centre, 23rd May '16: 18C (64F) If I'd tried this even five years ago I'd have had at least some funny looks if not actually berated. Re: Barrier across the Dee

Should a swimmer be caught by such a barrier it's not just the risk of bodily harm, it's the very real possibility of drowning which could be construed as attempted murder.

Re: Water Temperatures

I'm back. Have had a few cold swims this past winter but I've yet to post them. I've also moved and don't have broadband until later this week - currently posting on a 3G-enabled Chromebook but mobile internet is s-l-o-w and expensive and I can't really upload jpegs. Was also relieved that expensive...

Re: Water Temperatures

River Mersey, New Brighton, 27th November '15: 9C (48F) 9C is slightly below normal for the end of November. I'd normally expect 10C or so. It's a salty one but in the estuary, not open sea. Spring tide fully in, seriously windy and very rough, both of us were risking being slammed into the river w...

Re: At last we may be accepted on the Dart!!!!

I don't understand why "wild swimming" should be persistently confused with "naked swimming." Wildswimmer Pete doesn't seem compelled to shed his Speedos. The law in this country says that some parts of the body should be covered in public places. Is that so difficult to live with? Sounds like the ...

Looks like Henri's mortal remains have missed most of the UK but looking at the radar the south-east corner has been getting a bit of a pasting. Fortunately, with the trees all in leaf, the expected high winds didn't arrive.

Weather warning

Bit of a heads up. Looks like Wed or Thur will see a deep low circa 980mb core pressure will be moving along the Channel. The storm contains remnants of TS Henri and strong winds and very heavy rain possible. Even worse, trees are in leaf. If outdoors please keep an eye on weather forecasts. Wildswi...

Hatchmere, Delamere Forest, Cheshire 6th September '15: 16C (61F) A palindromic temperature!
