Re: Haystacks?

Was not the wave under the scaffold bridge on the Tryweryn called Haystacks, before they changed the bridge and then changed the wave. That's what were calling it in 1987.

A few weeks back, I watched a friend take the left 'sneak route', then somehow deflect right out of that and perform a perfect 'grind' along the just-covered central rocks, before joining the normal RH 'gutter' channel and running that down to the end. I'm pretty confident that Lizzie's line will n...

Re: Water levels for Dartmoor, Gene17 weekend

When you say great efforts, do you mean walking to the bottom of the garden to get an 80s boat and a trip into the loft to get the old bouyos? I was desperately upset to find the rivets had rusted out on old helmets. Surf does look actually reasonable for Friday as a starter for ten. That is what we...

Re: What paddling car - update

You are looking for a car that doesn't exist. I cannot get 2 playboats behind the front seats of a full sized hatchback, I can get 2 in but not without using the passenger seat. Rover 45 will get a 2070mm Seven-0 and 2-Fun behind the front seats. A diesel one would fit the OPs stated requirements e...

I've bought them but as the entire glass is clear with no deflection I'm wondering if they just point forwards for entire European market, unless anyone knows for sure I'll wait until its dark and drive up against a wall to check. Mark No, your headlamps will point left for the RHD market. Surely t...

Re: Kayak and Qatar Airways

Just as Poke said. If you take a kayak, Qatar give you an extra 10Kg on top of your 23Kg allowance, which with a 7kg hand luggage really means even if you are paddling and camping you should go under the limit. When we went to Uganda with Qatar they did weigh our boats at Heathrow. They were 25kg an...

Re: Car Hire in the french Alps !

We often use holidayautos (they are owned by expedia or last minute). They are quoting £120 for a week for a Focus pick up in Gap tomorrow. Even with a small extra charge to reduce the excess to zero, that seems reasonable.

Hi NathanE

I don't know Bod the train driver. The only other Bod I know of is Brian O'driscoll, who I understand is more often referred to as god in his neck of the woods. Oh and of course the unfortunate cartoon character from whom I got my nickname.

The date that CIWW opened was the weekend of Nutter's wedding, who Morsey used to live with. That was March 2010 as it happens. Now we went the Sunday after the wedding and Rich the Kayak shop owner, who Morsey occasionally worked for was there. If the stories are to believed, Nutter's wife was the ...

Re: Yacht towing Sea Kayaks

It is quite difficult to prepare boats for transport by the Scillonian. We struggled to lash our two composites (Valley Anas acutas) in a such a way as they could be safely lifted together. Even some cunning foam cradles didn't really help. On the way back we joined with two paddlers with plastic b...

Re: Uganda: What kit?

Rashy, board shorts, wetsuit boots, pfd, deck, lid, boat, paddle are all you need. And suncream. River's too big for a throwline to be of much use. Don't drink Special, it makes mornings hurt. Don't listen to Clarky. His kit list is perfect but beer advice is rubbish. He'll be telling us that Austr...

Re: Uganda: What kit?

Unless you need to hang washing up, a throwline is of little use. Short and long sleeve rash vest should be all you need for warmth/sun protection. If it rains and you naturally get cold, then maybe a short sleeve cag (some people say that you want one to keep water out of your boat). I didn't wear ...

Prices are unbeatable when they do work out, anyway. I would disagree with you there, in some cases. Mountain Factor which is a real shop with real stock in Ambleside often have Icebreaker at those and better prices, both instore and online. I think referring to an expedition as an expedition is very last year.
