Robin, Removal of property with no intent to deprive on a permenant basis isn't theft in Scots law. However it is quite clearly clandestine possession i.e. taking possession of the property of another without their consent or other lawful authority (namely Police officer or under a Sheriff's warrant...

Re: Steve Maynard Special
WilsoJ2, Duncan could well be referring to the very, very small sea kayak which Radical Moves (owner/manufacturer - Alan Gibson) made back in 2000 (?) which had a hull shape decended from an Anas Acuta. Steve Maynard had one which I bought and owned for a short period before selling it to Guy Jackso...

Re: Kayak to Faroes
[/names like Peter Bray and Andrew MacAuley spring to mind. Hard to believe (and the difference is of course meaningless to most of us), but a 300km crossing barely registers in this context. When put in that perspective yes. Perhaps my tired brain should have put in my first post - in terms of UK ...

Re: Kayak to Faroes
The boundaries of the sport have I think been pushed back by this crossing due it's level of commitment both physical and mental and the sheer exposure of spending well over 74 hours afloat crossing a wild and remote part of the North Atlantic ocean. Respect. PS - The lads have probably already foun...

Re: Purbeck July
yet oddly I seem to have failed to have taken any pictures of anyone paddling ... Perhaps that's why the photos are so interesting? Sea kayaking isn't all about the actual paddling; it's the people, places, fora, fauna, history, geology, landscape, colours, sights, smells and simply being out of do...

Mark, I've not much sea kayak paddling experiences to speak about with Orkney or Shetland however I've visited them both several times with work and play. Kirkwall and Lerwick both have great curryhouses. Kirkwall one on the cobbled high st and in Lerwick, it's called Gurkha Kitchen nr to the CO-OP ...

Re: Scotland - the other side
Mark, There's a huge amount of hertiage in the inlets and harbours of Caithness relating to the herring boom and the sea cliffs South of Wick are a sea kayaker's idea of heaven. Helmsdale chipper - 'La Mirage' as already recommended does portions to feed even the hunrgest sea kayaker. Brora to Dorno...

Re: BCU and VHF
I received an invitation from BCU this morning, to attend a course to become a "Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning" provider. In the requirements, they list VHF License (completed within past 3 years). Did the 'provider' day last year and the SCA certainly didn't ask for a 'valid VHF c...

Re: Eskimo Paddle Bridge Rescue - Deprecated?
Used twice in anger - once in the States and once at home on Lewis. Would now use the 'paddle alongside and let them pull themselves up on my boat' technique as apposed to the 'paddle presentation' style. Why - your hands stay on your paddle at all times...letting someone else grab it isn't always t...

Coming in rather late to this thread but one point which doesn't seem to have been made - we (sea kayakers) aren't the only ones who visit remote beaches and islands to spend a night under canvas there....RIB's, sailboats, jet skis, hikers, etc..... What about guidebook writers.....are you not addin...

MarkR, As far as I can ascertain, the Cape Wrath ranges are not in use until September - anyone know different? Give the range information line (pre-recorded message) a ring on 0800 833 300 or the range control @ Faraid Hd near Durness a ring direct on 01971 511 242. Anyone have the faintest clue wh...
