Looking for a folding boat

I'm on the lookout for a secondhand folding kayak - single seater, greenland style - something like a Feathercraft Khatsalano (except I doubt I can afford one, even used), Trek Seeker (I know, I just missed one - tant pis) or a Folbot Cooper. So if you have one unused and a getting around to selling...

FS Thule U bar carriers. Bargain.

For sale a pair of Thule U bar kayak carriers, designed to hold one or two kayaks strapped to one or both sides. Originally these would fit either box section or T-track roof bars, but they've been kicking around in my garage for some time now and I've lost the box section U-bolts, so as they're bei...

FS Prorack kayak carriers, good condition.

This is a set of 4 Prorack Kayak carriers. I bought these last summer for my new sea kayak, but have now sold the kayak, as it wasn't getting enough use with a young family, so these are now surplus to requirements. The Prorack PR3032N is simply the best kayak carrier on the market - the design, att...

For Sale: Tahe Marine Greenland T kayak.

I'm selling my Tahe Marine Greenland T sea kayak. It's a classic Greenland style sea kayak - low-volume hull, V bottom, hard chines, low rear deck, long and pointy. That does it a bit of a disservice as it is, in my opinion, one of the nicest shape sea kayaks made - it looks fast even sitting in my ...

For Sale: Werner Ikelos, bent shaft, 212.5cm

Before these go onto the dreaded ebay... I have a pair of Werner Ikelos sea/touring paddles for sale. I bought these about 5 years ago, not long before my son appeared on the scene, so consequently they have been used probably less than 10 times - the times I do get to go out, I generally use my Gre...

Re: Sea Kayak on car in Channel Tunnel?

Back from Croatia and a quick follow-up on the flares. I didn't take them in the end as I wasn't going to be in a position that I'd need 'em (within 50m of shore, no tides, stable weather). Anyhow neither going out nor coming back did I get asked if I had any and the boarding card that you hang arou...

Re: Sea Kayak on car.. Now with added fun with flares!

P.S. Graham - we'll be in Pakostan, south of Zadar from the 30th July - 6th August. Purple-y Citroen Grand Picasso with a black Tahe Greenland on the roof. Andy, remarkably we are heading for exactly the same area, we were reckoning on either Pakostran or Drage and should be there, off and on, from...

Re: Sea Kayak on car.. Now with added fun with flares!

Right, ended-up going on the P&O Dover-Calais route - I'm not in any hurry as I only need to get to Lyon on the first day to meet-up with the rest of the family and the ferry was half the price (and I do prefer boats to trains). The P&O online booking lets you enter both overall height and length, s...

Sea Kayak on car in Channel Tunnel?

Morning all, Heading to Croatia in a couple of weeks with the Greenland on the roof of the car. Has anyone had any experience of taking a 5m kayak on a car in the Channel Tunnel? Obviously I need to book an extra-high carriage but I can't find any mention on the website of excess length. The kayak i...

Re: Back; need a boat.

There was a Khatsalano S (that did not sell) on ebay a couple of weeks ago: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190675649285 Guy . Might be worth a follow-up. I found a non-S Khatsalano on craigslist in Aberdeen for a ridiculously cheap price, not had a response to my e-mail, so I guess it's either gone or s...

Back; need a boat.

Afternoon all, After a few years away (not at her majesties pleasure I add) the thought of another family holiday stuck on some crowded beach is tempting me back into a kayak, that and the son now being old enough to be interested. Anyhow, I'm on the look-out for a secondhand Greenland style boat - ...

Re: Nordkapp LV v Tiderace Xcite^

Slightly off at a tangent, but having been away for a couple of years with new baby arrival and therefore being a bit out of touch, I was wondering if Nordkapp LVs come up on the second-hand market much? It sounds like the sort of boat that would suit me now as my new family life is going to limit ...

Re: Suitable Foam and Glue For Footrest^

Has anyone tried using a river boat footrest in a sea kayak? I'm thinking of the footrest my old Jackson Fun 4 had - it's called a Happy Feet and is basically a bag divided into two compartments - one was full of polystyrene beads which you nestle your feet in and then suck the air from so that it b...

I'm also surprised at the problems people have had with MSR stoves. Mine has served me well, lots of use from car camping with the family, kayak trips, hill walking and ski touring and it's always worked without a hitch - we even used it for a couple of weeks in the house when I was re-doing the kit...

The ETA Power system also saves fuel so is great on longer trips. Primus is also really great with aftersales service etc. MikeD I'll second that - I have an Eta Power cooking pot (basically a pot with a JetBoil-style heat exchanger on the bottom) and it's really quick. You can hold you hand next t...

Re: Cookers

Having just spent a week cooking on a Trangier, I can't help wondering if this is the best the 21st century has to offer. What do you serious campers who want tea in under half an hour use? Primarily an MSR Whisperlite stove, burning unleaded petrol. It's a bit of a faff to light with the pre-heati...

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but for those of us who are slaves to technology (that includes me!) and have an iPhone, Imray have some nice little applications available for it. Definitely with feet and even more so with a relief zip, with the two caveats that a. you make sure 'everything' is tucked-in before yanking the zipper across, it makes my blood run cold to think what getting caught in that thing would be like and b. when you've parked the car and are walking back t...
