Re: Kayaking watches?

Having had a velcro Animal watch ripped from my wrist whilst playboating, I wouldn't trust another velcro strap. Velcro straps also tend to get that slight damp kayaking whiff to them too (though maybe that was just mine!) My Timex Ironman stopped working after taking it for a few sessions playboati...

Re: Anyone used a handi-rack?

A few negatives (which are probably written on the other threads): 1) They can scratch the car roof (a layer of carrymat, or polishing the roof free of grit can solve this). 2) They will burst if you blow them up on a cold morning and forget to let some air out when it gets hotter during the day. 3)...

Re: kayak travel insurance

I've used SnowCard http://www.snowcard.co.uk/ in the past (£68 for 10 days), but DogTag http://www.dogtag.co.uk/home.aspx looks cheaper (about £48 for 10 day trip). Anyone tried DogTag? A friend used Dog Tag for an Alps trip, he had to pay huge excesses to cover his mtn bike injuries (which were co...

However, I think that I may have underestimated the game changing nature of having the worlds in a hole, rather than a wave... Isn't it more often in a hole than on a wave? Yes, but the last 2 have been on waves. In World Championships, team GB have obtained (on average) many more medals at hole ev...

Re: Freestyle World Championships Streaming?

There's generally at least one person who competes in the squirt category in a float boat (there are no rules as to boat size) as they think they can do all the flatwater moves (which they can), however they generally don't do very well as mystery moves have such a high weighting to the score.

Re: Dog Tag/Snowcard Insurance

Tagdirect (TGIC) http://www.tgic-online.com/ti/jsp/welcome.jsp?AccountID=0 is always recommended on here by canoe control - we've gone with them this year. They are a reasonable price for annual travel insurance and have a reasonable cover. Dog tag has large excesses for extreme sports, (especially ...

Re: Freestyle comps, why dont you go?

Also, as a novice, I felt quite intimidated by those who were born and raised paddlers, throwing loops at age 10, and it felt a little pointless to go to all the effort of getting to the event if I didnt know anyone, and might've only managed a few very basic moves. And when you realise a lot of th...

Here is some further information on the first league event of 2011. The cost of entering this event is just £10 per person - it would cost you more to paddle there normally. The cafe will be open for refreshments. The approximate schedule is: Registration 9am-10am Flat Water - 10am-12pm (Flatwater f...

Nene kick-off for the freestyle season

Taken from 'dates and events' page: This year’s Freestyle calendar opens on the 17th April at the Nene White Water Centre, Northampton. The event is open to everyone and has a novice/open category as well as being the first event of the British Championship league. A new format will ensure plenty of...

A rapid that changed quite significantly during the times I went out to Uganda, but generally one where you never quite knew what was going to happen as you approached it. 2002 -high water levels: Silverback = HUGE wave train, but relatively friendly. I remember the first time I paddled the river, h...

Re: Freestyle comps, why dont you go?

There are several things that we (last year's freestyle committee) believed people would want from a freestyle event (below), we tried to get some of them up and running at the British Club Freestyle Championships, in October 2010: 1) water time 2) a good party 3) coaching 4) events other than just ...

G-force/Dagger kingpin and project are both easy, forgiving boats as are Jackson stars if you can get hold of a second-hand one cheaply.

You'll need to look at a 6.1 or 6.3 g-force.

British league counts as one, then either HPP TW or HPP T. Correct? So if you missed HPP you were pretty much out of contention irrespective of your results on the other two of the four league events. Yes and you could miss all of the league events but still make the team (so any traveller-types co...

Re: Probably asked before... But taking boats on planes.

I know of a couple of people who had their boats refused on Kenyan airways (who use KLM as a carrier and go by their policies). Emirates are usually good - but the Ugandan airport staff tend to be looking out for bribes on the way back if you are over the weight limit. Brussels sounds good for weigh...

If today's rain ups it to one gate by Saturday p.m then, if metcheck are correct (which they rarely are these days), I think it will be on at least 2 by Tuesday.

Hi Bob, Yes it does. The results to count towards selection/Brit Champs league event will be decided on the Saturday. Then, dependent on numbers there will be a final for each elite category on the Sunday (which doesn't count towards anything - except for the joy of winning a national event!!) Flea

Re: *bit of fun* What was the best boat you have ever paddled

Dagger Kingpin: not particularly radical but very easy to paddle, forgiving and helped me obtain 4 years worth of freestyle medals.

Although I also liked the Wavesport triple X, it was a revolution for female freestyle paddlers and was the first boat I could actually control vertical moves in.

The 23rd-24th October will be a selection event to decide who is on the team.
