Re: Everest Kayak Expedition On BBC 4 Saturday 28th Dec At 2

Yes, it would be interesting to see how 'today's' top paddlers got on if using the same gear. I still have an original Everest kayak (in excellent nick) so if you want to give it a try let me know! Never thought anything of it at the time but anyone jumping in to one nowadays would be spooked by th...

Re: Everest Kayak Expedition On BBC 4 Saturday 28th Dec At 2

This was big news at the time, (1970s), and the only kayaking expedition, I am aware of, that was widely reported in the mainstream media. ITV News at Ten had progress reports and the film was initially shown prime time on ITV. They also drove to Nepal and back in a minibus! Proper expedition! The ...

Another vote for the IR neo lined guide shorts. Personal preference, but I like to paddle in shorts as much of the year as poss so the neo lining extends the period and I often use them into December. Would add that the IR shorts come up a bit generous in waist size compared to their other products ...

Bearing in mind the incredibly serious nature of the offence I'm surprised they didn't confiscate your passport. Have fun and make the most of what freedom you have left. :)

I have a small issue about paying for access, we own the lease to a private lake from where we operate a BCU approved centre, we charge £5 per person to launch, this includes wet suit hire and boat hire if required and changing facilities. If someone turned up and said I don't need any of the 'incl...

Nigel, I don’t know what all the motives and issues are behind all this but I do hugely sympathise with you. I would be spitting blood with rage if I got treated that way and ended up with my DNA and fingerprints on the national database for something so ridiculously petty. Not being able to remove ...

Having had the same injury as yourself I would echo that advice. Follow the advice and you'll get a good result, ignore it and you'll end up with problems. If you have to take the splint off for cleaning or any other reason then slide it out off the splint onto a firm surface and apply pressure to k...

Wax is good but remember it melts and gets on things you would rather it didn't if you put your paddle in your car on a hot day. Think the sort of thing you had in mind is some rubber, self amalgamating tape which is waterproof and you apply overlapping like a new tennis handle grip. Available from ...

The police have been notified Are the police taking action. If they aren't then do take out a private prosecution for assault . You have the witnesses and it's very easy to do with just a quick trip to the local magistrates court to start the case which costs nothing. Obviously you will all have to...

My wife is UK size 10 and from memory when we were in the US she said that was the equivalent of US size 5/6 but you'll need to check.

Ran Cenarth Falls in October 1966. Supposedly one of the few successful attempts 40years ago, with John Liddell of first descent of the Dhud Kosi fame, who sadly died last month. The important thing is not to buy anything until you've paddled it and are totally sure it's the right decision and that means you need to paddle a few boats. It's got to be comfortable, practical and feel right. No good if you're feet feel squashed up, you can't get the gear in you want to carry ar...

Is it maybe the case that in a more rural environment, (ie much of Wales) where the local Police are more likely to know the locals on a personal level, you will be viewed as an outsider and therefore (not intentionally) you will be seen as the cause of the problem?
