Re: Any Costa Rica hints or tips?

a group of us went in 2009, we hired a van and driver, I like to paddle as much as possible on a trip, so having someone who knew the rivers and logistics pays dividends rather than faffing round wondering where to go and how to get there.

I agree with Dave, "either you have the mindset or dont" but have had that interpreted as elitist by others, it wasnt a criticism of Dave's post in any way

Re: Stepping up grades

There's also the linked question of why does anyone have to/want to step up the grades? I have a theory that answers both. Paddling ww is a crappy sport to learn. It's cold, wet and generally unpleasant. You need a truck load of kit and there's the potential to get hurt. Why would anyone even try i...

Hi,

I had both hands done at the same time back in 2006, boating on the flat in 3 to 4 weeks and 10 days on the Ottawa 3 months after with no problems. Enjoy the Alps.

Re: WW paddling - would be better if it carried less risk...

"No" would be my very simple response to the this. Paddling is a risky sport, I think it's a given, many of us know from experiences and/or reading this forum, that doesn't mean we accept the risk at face value. Since starting paddling I have been on courses, been coached, practised and practised an...

Drive through Borg and you will come to a roundabout with a supermarket on the left, go right and there is a campsite just there on the right hand side, easy peddle to the course too.

Re: Zambezi Dam?

From a conversation with Sven years back, I believe there was a location for the dam identified, just down stream of Lower Moemba, the last rapid/fall on day 3 of a trip down the river. That would tie in with being 50K (ish) downstream from Vic Falls, the river would flood back to about number 10, e...

I met Tao on the Wenatchee river in Washington state, he's from round there by all accounts, I'd not been paddling long so didnt know who he was until I got off the river and one of the other lads told me. I'd just missed getting onto a wave, he paddled over, gave me a couple of tips and carried on ...

Can I thank everyone for their kind words and thoughts. A daughter, a wife, a moth...

Re: One Day Like This - your perfect days

There have been many, but one stands out in my mind, an early morning meet with Daz in North Wales, low levels but with the sun shining, pretty much the perfect autumnal day, the Cwm Mynach followed by the Croeser, the Friday night pint tasted soooo good afterwards. If there is one day that can tran...

I was on the Wenatchee with Jim that day and that was quite special, so many moments since but an old favourite is the first run down number 5 on the Zambezi after Sven telling us we couldnt inspect as we wouldnt paddle it if we saw it - brilliant.
