Re: River Tees - Cauldron Snout

I(Bob Evans) ran the whole thing April 2013 along with Michael Hutchinson and Stu Ridley. We ran it on compensation flow, which is Low water! At this level the top section is easier but the bottom drop is nasty. I would agree with Jims comments above, One pipe is probably the optimum level. We slit ...

Re: HUDESHOPE BECK

This is a fantastic spate Beck. We recently ran it from much higher up, getting on at the head of the valley. Local water levels were very high that day, 31 Dec 2012. There are a few fence and tree portages to spoil things but then it leads into a superb G4 deep gorge, which is above the section des...

Re: Upper Tees, Flushiemere Access & HEP

Just out of interest has anyone paddled the drop at Gibson's cave. I had a look at it a while back and thought that it would need a lot of water to go. Never seen it at a decent level, wonder what it is like. I Investigated it many years ago, and convinced myself that there was little chance of it ...

Cauldron Snout Video 2004

Following Sam Ellis`s superb descent of Cauldron Snout earlier this year, I have been inundated with requests (well, half a dozen at least!) to post a video up of my attempt in 2004. Search Utube "White Water Kayaking Cauldron Snout River Tees" or the below link should work https://www.youtube.com/w...

Re: Cauldron Snout Film

Nice one Joe. Respect to anyone who padles over that horizon line at the top no matter how many people there are in the support team etc. Real respect of coarse to Nick Doll, the man who showed us all it was possible, all subsequent runs are a bit easier because we learn from what has gone before. I...

Re: North East Cauldron Snout and rookhope burn

I should also have added by contrast, Joe had competent people on each drop. well I had a totaly incompetant few with not a single throw line between them, we shared the one I had out amongst them all! This was a professional and methodical approach Well i have to say mine wasnt!! the bottom drop wa...

Re: Did shoulder surgery work?

Sounds like a few success stories here, mine is not so good. In the last 4 years I have had three trauma dislocations (snow boarding, kayaking, board surfing) then had surgery, the surgery ripped out about 9 months latter and surgeon wouldnt/couldnt do it again. So back to square one and more disloc...

Re: You shouldnt be paddling it if you're scared? Discuss

I find different peoples perception of what makes them scared very interesting. I have seen much better paddlers than me freaked out by something that looks hard, but isnt eg the ALLT MHEURAN at high flow. On the other hand some paddlers can get scarred by what they cant see round the next corner or...

I got hassled by the police and Fire service once when preparing to get on the Upper Wear, while the rest of the group were doing the shuttle. The river was at a rather good level, ie in Flood. They advised me we would be arrested if we attempted to get on. I managed to convince them we were experie...
