Old Town canoes ever manufactured by Venture Canoes UK?

Intrigued by an eBay advert selling a 17 foot canoe with Old Town decals on the sides. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323909162851?ViewItem=&item=323909162851 Someone else asked which 17 foot Old Town model it is and in 'Contact seller => Details about the item' section the seller replied 'I have had a ...

Jensen 18 racing C2 from Wenonah

Reluctantly putting my Jensen 18, kevlar ultralight racing C2 up for sale. Mostly been used as a fast family tourer. Always been stored inside, 11 years old. Shows the signs of careful use you'd expect but the boat is sound and ready to race. Photos of the hull were taken today. These cost £ 2995 ne...

Wanted - stable K2

I am looking to buy a used stable racing K2 along Mystere / Meister or Condor lines and would also consider mid-range stability hull shapes. If anyone has done the DW Endeavour event and is looking to part with their K2, whether it is a case of 'job done' or 'never again' or 'onwards and upwards to ...

Difference Kirton Meister / Marsport Condor?

If I am not mistaken these are marketed as highly stable K2s with appeal to clubs / learners etc.

From the stability ratings I wonder whether the Meister is ever so slightly tippier and potentially faster?

Would be grateful for any feedback based on experience.

Re: Paddles for C2 touring marathon

Don't know that paddle specifically but I find it is mostly the marketing guys that describe paddles as powerful. The Liffey Descent is mostly flat sections interspersed with a few grade 2 weirs and unless you race 18 mile marathons quite regularly, you may be grateful for a smaller blade area paddl...

Re: Which design of boat has been in production the longest

Hmm ... I have more questions than answers. Not sure about the Kleppers; a group of young entrepreneurs bought the rights to the name a few years ago. They quite sensibly exploit the brand's heritage but also make the point that current models have evolved a lot. I simply don't know if any models ca...

Re: Liffey Descent postponed?

Little bit of rain in County Wicklow at last, which is where the reservoirs are that will hopefully lubricate the Liffey Descent. However learnt something new again - looking at the year as a whole, more moisture has evaporated from soil and plants per area this year in Co. Wicklow than there has be...

By way of an update, just to say that Irish Ferries did let me amend my 'promotional fare' booking after all, for a £ 20.00 fee per crossing, which I decided to take up the tail pipe.

Liffey Descent postponed?

Just looked at Irish Canoe Union website and it looks like they are proposing to shift the Liffey Descent to 8th October this year, due to low water levels in upstream reservoirs making the usual dam release unfeasible for September 10th. As a look at my calendar tells me, this is unlikely to be an ...

Nottingham Mini Sprint query

I have trouble understanding one part of the June results for the Nottingham Sprints that were published on the Wey website a couple of days ago. It looks like if you took, say, a 13-year-old to brave the choppy conditions, promotions and demotions were applied as usual as far as I can tell. However...

High-backed seat in racing K1 what's the crack

Most racing kayak manufacturers offer the choice of speccing a standard or a high-backed seat. Trouble for me is, I have never found any principled, or theory-based account under what circumstances one is supposed to be preferable over the other. Obviously the 'try it and see if you like it' school ...

Hi Heard about a K1 manufatured by Pornyeszi in Hungary, the Revoution 46. No prizes for guessing how wide it is, and aimed at masters marathon paddlers apparently. Oh, I see ... - I guess that still leaves the fact there would have been several other US-built C2s competing that were also 'non ICF class' for the reasons I give above. I wonder whether a constructive way forward would be to do what they do in the US and name the actual models / designs of boats t...

Waterside series - ICF rules for C boats?

Looking at the 2009 Waterside B results for Canadian Doubles I was intrigued to see a '&&' symbol by the name of the winning crew, which in the caption is explained as "Not counted for prizes as non ICF class boat". It may be worth saying I had no affiliation with any of the Waterside B Canadian Dou...
