I've been in Dunedin since September. It's an awesome place to live, but the party town comment was spot on. The population of the place triples when the students come back, and it gets a bit more lively. I love it. So it depends just how much of a grumpy old man you are. It's a 3 hours drive to the...

I've just alway assumed that it was only polite to credit the photographer. I always try to remember if including someone else's photos on my blog, but to be honest I'm not that fussed when someone uses my photos, it's just nice that they like my photo! Some are more guilty than others, I've always ...

I'm generally a fan of taking a bottle of Tabasco and just buying whatever the locals eat at the market. Usually rice, noodles, or cous cous, a bunch of stock cubes, and at at least one random vegetable that I've never heard of before. Yes, but having had the horrible experience of being in the toi...

Jules, I have a perfectly lovely Burn all of my own, sadly I don't have a car to drive it to the rivers as mine blew up. Can I have your car? My mate says you can have his mini, all you need is a stout steel cable and a large anchor and then its lack of brakes won't be too much of a bother. To be f...

Re: The uncoolest bit of kit at the moment?
I have just bought a Sweet Rocker Full Cut. I think the visor is one of the uncoolest bits of kit on the market! Anyone agree? I totally agree with you Liam. Clearly this sort of thing is so very much cooler: http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j187/RandyFandango/Rocker.jpg Giles My God, what a dork.

If its a true 'lifestyle' venture you are after rather than making you a rich man, Sunspots kayak shop was up for sale recently. It is located 2 minutes drive from the get in the Kaituna River near Rotorua in New Zealand. Perhaps THE best test spot for kayaks ever. The whole business was up for gra...

The death of that character can only be a good thing for British television. And indeed NZ telly, as i noticed the show being advertised as starting next week out here, billed as "the best British comedy has to offer"... dear God. The real question is, if the BCU were to be infiltrated by fishermen,...

Where abouts are you basing yourself on the South Island? West coast? I've recently moved to Dunedin from the UK, and as of yet have done lack of boating. In all, I spend a lot more time tinkering with my bike than I do with my boat and don't think anything of that. This could be explained by the fact that you buy a new boat every other month. I find tightening them every so often does the trick and then maybe a wee bit of tape over the top. Doesn't ...

Sucks eh? The easiest way of getting the sports union onside is to compete in lots of BUSA/SUS events and make a big fuss about the points you get etc... (Its what they seem to be interested in.) Even then, keeping the kayak club alive for them is a wee bit more hassle than say the football club. Al...

I know a 14 year old (well he was then) who was well up to the "intellectual demands" of his five star. It's all a case of temporal focus anyway. Hear Hear. The real question is, that if the paddlepower scheme is for 14 and unders, and the normal scheme for 16 and overs, like the BCU guff says, the...
