Thanks DaveSt - I found some there of me (green helmet), Chuck (green helmet) and Astrid (er, green helmet) near the end of the Garry album. Many thanks for sharing them! It's worth noting here in case people aren't aware that you can download whole albums from Picasaweb back into the Picasa applica...

Re: Paddling the Dart 'unlawfully' last weekend
No troubles at all - a couple of friendly walkers on the bridge at Dartmeet who appeared thrilled to see us, a local chap out walking his dog who stopped for a friendly chat* as I waited for our shuttle, and the river at a great level. Andy * I think he was disappointed I wasn't more excited about h...

Re: My PHPBB forum's got a couple of problems
It looks like you've fixed it now - I assume the page used to declare: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> and you've changed it to: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> ? The diamond character is what shows up when a UTF-8 decoder ...

We were first on the scene at the Onde incident and assisted with the attempted resuscitation and calling of the emergency services. We'd like to clarify what Lowri wrote above - we understand this accident was a case of tree entrapment resulting in drowning, not a heart attack (as Lowri and others ...

How much are they, do you need tp pay to leave such as in Zambia too? I think we paid $30 in 2006, they just did it right there at the little desk where they check your passport, not even any scurrying off with it... They're $50 now - make sure you take recent notes. (You don't have to pay to leave...

Just a thought: I suspect they have no idea how many people have taken advantage of the earlier policy. You didn't need to warn them in advance, and as far as I could see when I checked in my boat it was just treated as an extra piece of checked baggage that happened to need to go on the outsize ite...

some sporting equipment cannot be accommodated through the airport baggage system or within the aircraft hold Well that's nonsense - they managed just fine the several times I've flown my boat with BA this year. Maybe the new "state-of-the-art" baggage handling system at T5 has something to do with...

Here is the latest I know of in Uganda, Basically, they have dammed one of 2channels at silverback, (Ugly sisters channel if you know the nile). This has caused everything up until total gunga to flood out, and made silverback a portage. I flew home yesterday after a fantastic couple of weeks out t...

We ran Day One yesterday - a long paddle from Bujagali all the way to Itanda. Bujagali and 50-50 are just the same as always, but Total Gunja is just a big messy wavetrain - there's no g-spot any more. Surf City is still pretty big and has a proper zone of funny water behind it. With Ugly Sisters bl...

You just need to strap your paddle bag to the boat - bingo, one item! It does depend on the check-in staff - flying to Uganda was fine with the blades separate, but the check-in staff at Entebbe insisted I strapped them together. NB BA's current sports gear weight limit is 32kg, but it'll be back do...

getting boats to Heathrow
Three of us need to get ourselves plus creek boats from Reading or Woking to Heathrow T4 for 7am on Saturday 4th August... does anyone have good suggestions how to do this without a shuttle driver? Does the RailAir coach from Reading station take boats... and can you then get boats onto the train to...

I'd say all the problems above are caused by water on the lens - which is possibly also having an effect on the autofocus to exacerbate the problem. You could try making a little strip of the super-absorbent synthetic drying-up cloths from any supermarket - no problem with the cloth getting soaked a...

Someone at the SMC made this: http://www.smc.org.uk/books/books_contour_maps.htm - is that suitable? The official TOPO GB maps don't show all paths anyway (though they do include roads and rivers).
