New Podcast, sea kayaking Patagonia & Scotland with Will Copestake

It's been quite a while since I wrote 'New Podcast' here! Covid-19 prompted me to start a new podcast series in which great adventurers talk about their great adventures. You'll find links to loads of Podcast listening places on the main website, which is also the title https://AlwaysAnotherAdventur...

Re: Simon Willis Podcasts Cannot Download

Hi Chris Overnight I received a reply from Backtracks - apparently there was something wrong in the settings, although I can't find it. Anyway, they seem to be playing in iTunes and a random sample on http://SeaKayakPodcasts.com work. I've also added them to Spotify and SoundCloud (or at least press...

Re: Simon Willis Podcasts Cannot Download

Hi - I see what you mean. I migrated these to Backtracks a while ago but there seems to be an issue with them. Looking on their dashboard, something weird has been going on, which might have been a series of DNS attacks. Thousands and thousands of downloads have been made in recent days which probab...

Yeah the drone... I really wanted that but I didn't hold the purse strings.

What makes you think we didn't have larger bottles of whisky? Just 'cos I only shot the small ones... ;-)

Re: The Canoe Boys - on BBC TV 17th April 2016

Thanks Phil. I co-produced and shot the programme up to and including the journey but then I handed it over. I hadn't seen the final edit and I was pleased.

The programme is now on the iPlayer:

The Canoe Boys - on BBC TV 17th April 2016

The Canoe Boys is coming to BBC TV on 17th April 2016. As most people will know, the original book by Sir Alastair Dunnett is a kayaking classic, about a 1934 voyage up the west coast of Scotland. The BBC programme is a celebration of that original journey and features Brian Wilson, the author of B...

Re: HD camcorders (waterproof)^

GoPro are still the best waterproof, wide-angle camera and the new 4 looks particularly good. We used 5 of them when shooting the Emergency Situations film in Volume 3, Sea Kayak with Gordon Brown. However, I tend to use them as a supplemental camera - I couldn't use them as the main camera on a sho...

New Podcast - Justine Curgenven, 101 Days in Alaska

I forgot to mention this when it went live a few days ago. Justine will also be doing a talk based on this trip at the Perth paddle show, this year called 'An Fheis Mhor, Scotland's Festival of Paddlesport ' running 24-26th October. The podcast is at SeaKayakPodcasts.com as usual and on iTunes . S

GPS Jamming, NW Scotland in October

The annual, continuing military exercise Join Warrior gets underway again next month and runs 6-17 October and will involve some jamming of GPS signals. I can't find details of where and when this will happen, but the Royal Navy spokesman told the P&J Newspaper “GPS jamming during Joint Warrior will...

New Podcast - Oileain

When the Irish President made his recent State visit to the UK, one of the two gifts he brought Prince Charles was a copy of Oileain. The second edition of the guidebook to Ireland's islands has just been published by Pesda Press, so it seemed a good time to chat to the author David Walsh. You'll fi...

Re: Massive Oyster Farm in Loch Moidart

I'm still learning about this, and I'm willing to accept my initial fears might be wrong. I thought it would restrict kayak access to the shore, restrict navigation in what is already a narrow loch, and be an industrial eyesore at low water. After a lot of reading, I think my initial fears might be ...

OK - found it on the Highland Planning website. I have already registered my objection - you'll be able to read my comments online. If you'd like to preserve this prime sea kayaking area, I urge you to comment please.

Massive Oyster Farm in Loch Moidart

I'm not sure of the implications / effect of this as I'm still searching for the planning details online. Yesterdays Press & Journal reports the owners of a small 5 acre oyster farm in Loch Moidart want to increase it in size to 57 acres. This loch is very popular with sea kayakers (it's one of our ...

We have a KariTek system on ours. The pop-top roof is fitted with VW 'channels' into which a roof rack can slide and be held in place. KariTek supply everything else. Ours is a few years old, is not cheap, and functions OK but not outstanding. I'm not sure how it would work with a river boat. It is ...

New book about paddling around Britain

Rowland Woollven has written a book about what it's like to kayak around Britain. I know a little about the background to this book and it's certainly not an enterprise which will make Rowland rich, so I hope it will be acceptable to draw people's attention to it on this forum. Called 'Sticking With...

Divided into two parts this is Patrick's account of crossing the north sea, in a double kayak, with Olly Hicks earlier this year. Part 1 is live now at SeaKayakPodcasts.com and iTunes. Part 2 probably coming around 15th Nov but the diary is looking busy then so it might not be until 1st Dec.
