Re: Riot Nija and Sword Surf Kayaks arrive
Okay, I'm getting bored of hunting round the site looking for the pics. Can someone please put me out of my misery and post a direct link?

Never really worked out a reliable way to judge the sizes... This website gives 36hrs of historical data for multiple buoys around the UK coast http://map.cefasdirect.co.uk/wavenetmapping/StaticMapPage.asp?CD=http://www.cefas.co.uk/wavenet&CP=default.htm If you are just out for the day you could ac...

Re: Amazing South African surfing...
Where in SA was it from? Durban, though not sure where exactly. And as far as his choice of craft? If he surfs like that then 1) he can surf anything he likes, and 2) I'm not going to tell him otherwise!!! Here's the link to the page on MSW, where you can see that even the boardies have to respect ...

I must be waching a different video, I fail to see what hes done worng ? The one where the bodyboarder comes across I woudnt regard as dropping in on it since it was well out of range when he got the wave and the BB was reddy to wash off the wave as he got to him anyway, I cant see where hes revers...

Re: Surfing the Cetus
All this thread has done is stereotype UK surf kayakers as every bit as non-understanding as the boarders. When were you last hit by an out of control board or boat Jim? It's happened to me on more than one occassion in the twenty-plus years I've been surfing. I don't show prejudice against the cra...

Re: Surfing the Cetus
I bet 100 yards down the beach theres no one surfing. But the camera man probably cant walk that far!! There are actually shots of the guys surfing on his own, with no one else in the water, so why did he need to surf anywhere near those other people? I know the sea belongs to no one, but if you've...

What a load of self-satisfied rubbish has been posted in this thread. I want to see you stood in the water while he does all that, then tell us all we're speaking out of our arses... If he was paddling a boat a metre shorter, no one would even pass comment. I agree if he was in an IC boat or someth...

I can't believe the guy!!! Around 1min 30S he's dropping in on someone, then at approx 2:10 he backsurfs through the lineup and thinks its cool claiming it at the end!!! If he came and surfed my beach like that he'd be eating that f**king boat...

I had one 'til I broke it and loved the way it surfed, but you really do need to be on top of your paddling game to get the best out of it. Having lost a lot of fitness and gained some extra weight I went to a Neutron RV. I'd suggest, if you can afford it, that you keep your plastic boat just in cas...

Re: Mega Boost vs Neutron RV
Firstly, if you order a boat now there is a long waiting list, and as they cost the same it will be no biggy if you change your mind before they start laying up your boat (I believe the waiting time at the mo is a minimum 6 weeks, but you'd have to check that with Mega), so that gives you some time ...

I don't know what size you need and so can only suggest you take the boat to your nearest stockist to try a bunch on.

Me too, though there's a great story in Deep Trouble of a guy who had, and used one, only to have it ignored by the authorities who figured it was an errant or erroneous signal!!!MikeB wrote:When I can afford it, I'm going for an EPIRB.
Still love to have one though...

Re: KAYAKER OFF ORKNEY RESCUED FROM THE WATER
I'd think a wet suit would be better with layers than just layers?? It'd be good to understand the science/evidence behind it all don't you think? A wetsuit works by trapping a layer of water in the suit, which is then warmed by body heat to act as a thermal layer. Thats why an exemplary fit is so ...

Re: KAYAKER OFF ORKNEY RESCUED FROM THE WATER
I wonder if anyone can give a definitive answer on the most appropriate clothing to wear to increase your chances of survival in this sort of situation. Ask the guys on the Berring Sea, dry suit all the way. In those kind of temperatures you are dead in 15mins without one. After all, divers use 7mm...

Re: Finding Sanctuary - Marine conservation zones consultation
Sounds like we had two very different experiences, but admittedly with two different organisations, and as I don't fish I wasn't asking questions from that point of view. I am a graduate of Marine Sciences and a life-long user of the sea, and I was greatly impressed with the detail in which this pro...

Re: which riot?
I don't know the turbo, but the nitro looks to have far too much rocker to do well in the surf, looks slow. Suffice to say that if you have the means you'd be better off with most any surf-specific kayak compared to any river boat, and there are some very cheap second-hand options around.

Re: KAYAKER OFF ORKNEY RESCUED FROM THE WATER
I'm not sure though how I'd manage to make a call with a phone whilst bobbing about in the sea without the phone getting ruined by the wet hands and splashes from the sea before a call got out. Might need to look at some of those waterproof pouches that allow control through the material, does anyo...

Re: How viable is a career as a coach?
Thanks Colin, I have more than enough experience for surf coaching (in fact I used to be a BSA level 1 coach), and people in the trade who could vouch for that, but my sea paddling would need more time. However, I think the big hurdle is going to be cost, and certainly I'm not in a position right no...
