Re: BBC filler

Thanks for the update Greg. I for one was interested just to see who was what.

I hope my comment about parties did not cause any offence. It was totally tongue in cheek and my
experience of Irish folk is the complete opposite.

I have two of the boats in the line up. I reckon Fozzy has all of them.

Ps. I bet they are a barrel of laughs at a party.

Re: Deckbag and a simple BA?

That is exactly my way of thinking Beryl.
I used to have a Palm Kaikoura pfd but I would liken that to being a para trooper on a combat jump.
I now use a resurrected Northsore deck bag with an Astral Willis BA.

VHF and plb go in the BA, flasks of soup, coffee and goodies go in the deck bag.

Re: Kayak Paddle Length and width of grip

If you are keen to understand the mechanics of the forward stroke there is an excellent video on You Tube of Ivan Lawler teaching a paddle clinic at Richmond Canoe Club. I would post the link if I knew how. I am not saying all that he says applies to white water. You would have to decide what parts ...

Re: Fast fitness kayak - surfski?

In my fleet I have a surf ski, a K1 and a Taran and I flip flop between them. My feeling is that if you are going to paddle on just a river then go for a stable racing boat (rocking horse manure) but with your budget you could easily buy new. Undoubtably you would need to try before you buy. The mai...

Ok I will go first.
ACR ResQLink as recomended to me by my local chandler.

Not used it 'yet' so cannot comment on whether it works.
It gets replaced for free if I have to use it.

Thumbs up to Plan B Charity who persuauded me to buy one.

Re: Why don’t manufacturers update their websites ?

Maybe some Companies do not need to advertise. I recently had the good fortune to visit both the Rockpool and the SKUK factories and they seem to be doing very well thanks. The response by sloegin was spot on. Some paddlers spend too much time looking for a boat to give them the 'magic solution' ins...

This is going to be a shameful plug for a mate of mine but I suggest you give Mike Mayberry a call. Search for Mayberry Kayaking.
Mike is based at Goodwick near Fishguard and he speciazlises in family days out. He also has a vast knowledge of the area and will give you plenty of help.

Happy paddling.

Re: Stroke Rate on Garmin Fenix ?

Sorry I totaly missed the point but I am trying to work out the mechanics with this one. Surely a Cadence Sensor on a wrist mounted device will not work. When you stop paddling to read the cadence it will say zero. Surely the device needs to be mounted on the deck or foot strap so that you can read ...

Re: Stroke Rate on Garmin Fenix ?

Interesting thread ' Is stroke rate important in kayaking ?' That is quite a general statement because it depends what you mean by kayaking. Given the general standard of forward paddling in sea kayaking and the lack of a desire to become more efficient this forum is probably not the right place for...

Re: Cold feet fatigue

My view is that any upper leg bracing should be discouraged. It is not necessary in a sea kayak. The same goes for a back rest. Stablity comes from using the paddle the feet and the top hand. The footrest should be adjusted so that you can brace with the thighs either passively or dynamically depend...

A vast amount of information there but I am struggling with the basic point of it all. A fine example of a sea kayakers discussion though. I was very interested with Douglas's input from a surfski perspective. A surf ski certainly comes into its own downwind and is a real step up from most sea kayak...

You do not need a backband for forward paddling. Whoever said that you don't push with your feet in a K1 has obviously never paddled one. If in doubt have a read about 'locking the blade' With the blade locked you actually pull yourself forward and almost off the seat, transferring the power through...

If you think you have problems at thirty wait until you get to sixty. The best quote so far is 'Hang up your paddles & buy a SUP mate - you've written yourself off without even trying.....' There is far more to kayaking than just throwing yourself down rapids, you just have to adjust your mindset. I...

Not worth the paper they were written on.

Better than nothing.
