Is the fish ladder sill paddle-able? I've heard that due to the Archimedes screw there's an issue paddling it??? Don't want to waste a journey tomorrow.

Re: Moderate Water Endorsement

I want to do the MWE but I am old stlye level two as well as a number of coaches at my club and its becoming a right pain to get this new UKCC L2 done just so we can move on to the MWE. I would under stand there been less and less coaches wanting to do this new system with the new pre-requisites th...

Re: Sleningford Water Mill

Looking at the OS map it is clear that there is a public right of way running through the campsite. It probably gets you to the top of the old broken weir which certainly questions whether they can charge you for spectators (£1.50!!). Parking there is another matter. And paying £4.50 to access a riv...

Re: What are the outcomes of the UKCC coaching scheme ?

I'm changing over to the new scheme from the old one and my biggest problem has been finding a UKCC Level 2 training course that is actually running - most I have enquired about recently have been cancelled due to lack of interest. Surely and indication of how things currently are?

Surf Kayak Coaching

Can anyone recommend any decent coaches or centres that could offer some intermediate surf kayak coaching. I'm a WW paddler and have surfed a fair bit but would like some pointers to improve.
Cheers. Dave

Where do people think the new Teeside Course will rank in this all?

From the pictures it looks more challenging in my opinion to CIWW on 8 cumecs.

Parking is free here at Water End and there's some steps to get you into the river. Quite a nice return trip into town and back from there.

Wanted: Playboat Yorkshire/NE area

I'm looking for a playboat - am pretty open to what make model etc.. I currently paddle a Lil Joe, weigh 80kg and need a boat to learn freestyle skills. I'm based in York so something fairly close would be good.

Show them some pictures that encapsulate the true beauty of the great outdoors, then show them a photo of an office desk and ask them where they'd rather be.
Will be doing that too but need a couple of good quotes too.

Inspiring Paddling/Outdoor Ed quotes for young people

Hi, I've been asked to run assemblies next week at school promoting Outdoor Education and it's worth and values to young people. I've got most of it sorted but am struggling a bit to find some quotes by important people to add to my presentation. It could be explorers, famous paddlers, celebrities, ...

Re: Pulling a full size canoe trailer with a car?

I've got a new style license so can tow up to 750kg. It's an older trailer and the VIN plate is 750kg max and Burtech confirmed this with me. So from that perspective it's fine. The car will stuggle a bit but I'm only doing 40 miles in it. Cheers for advice.

Re: Pulling a full size canoe trailer with a car?

It's gonna have 4 open boats on so I'm not worried about the weight- I've pulled a caravan of the same size no probs. It's just the size that dwarfs the car - don't wanna get in trouble with the police

Pulling a full size canoe trailer with a car?

I normally pull this trailer with a minibus http://www.burtechtrailers.co.uk/category.asp?catID=2 However next weekend I would prefer to tow it with my car, a Peugeot 306 1.6. The trailer's weight will match my car's towing limit but the trailer does seem a lot bigger compared to my car. Does anyone...

Am booked in on a L2 transfer course and feel a bit queasy now after forking out £39 in BCU fees for this - that's nearlly 21 pints at my local pub.

Seriously though, what does this pay for? It's a form - why should it cost that much?

Kayak hire in Bovec, Slovenia

Am in Bovec next week for a couple of days but without any paddling kit. I'd like to take the girlfriend down some grade 2/3 stuff. Can anyone recommend a good place to hire stuff from in Bovec? Also are there any companies that will drop you off and pick you up?
Thanks, Dave

This system of access is ridiculous! You can pretty much walk all of the river bank from Sleningford upto Masham why should paddling a river be any different?
