Dave Manby elected to International Whitewater Hall of Fame

I was delighted to see the announcement from the International Whitewater Hall of Fame (paddling's equivalent to the Oscars?) that Dave Manby has been elected to the "Class of 2021". A well deserved honour for someone who has done so much over the last 45 years to encourage and inspire pad...

Thursday 22nd April. Live streaming blog by Expedition legends, Mick Coyne, Roger Huyton and Suzy Hornby.

They will be talking about the golden years of river expeditions. Three real characters - Mick and Roger were on the famous Dudh Kosi expedtions in 1976 and 1986. Then in 1990 Mick led the first kayak attempt on the Rondhu Gorges of the Indus in Pakistan - filmed as "Taming of the Lion". S...

Re: Chalaux & Cure Rivers in Burgundy?

We were here in late August 2019 in the Park du Morvan. The park is fairly near to Dijon and a couple of hours drive south of Paris. So worth considering as a stop on the way to the Alps or Massif Central. We found a very pleasant, cheap and quiet lakeside campsite. 2019 was an exceptionally dry sum...

Re: Storage for a Kayak

I know the Fusion is not the smallest or lightest of kayaks, however its only 10ft long. If you live on the 4th floor then I guess there is a lift? Have you checked its dimensions? There is a fair chance that your kayak will fit in it. If so then there are all kinds of possibilities - on the landing...

Europe is a whole continent so there is obviously a huge range of options available. I suggest you take a look at the Songofthepaddle website and trawl through their blog descriptions. The south of France is deservedly popular for canoe and kayak camping trips for beginners - with a wide choice of e...

Re: What river comes up quickest?

My vote would be for the Upper Derwent which drains Borrowdale and is supposedly the wettest place in England. It's usually up and down within a few hours so unless you live locally you are unlikely to get to paddle it - which is a shame as its a beautiful run. We try to time it so we are getting on...
