Re: The End of History?
That's it. That's the end of the story where Dart access is concerned, and gives a promising pointer for the national access situation. A fair summary/ analysis? Interesting thread, but we should remember to check over the next horizon line. The summary is OK, but the analysis is flawed as it may n...

Re: Important: Lower Tryweryn take out
Can`t believe the cheek of this request. Ted, I don't see what is cheeky about asking paddlers to show a little consideration? Lowri's request was politely put and would seem reasonable to most people, so why take such offence? I wouldn't think her intention was to have a pop at fellow paddlers. Th...

I am a member of CANI, I work in London every day and I run course's in Wales and Scotland 5-6 times a year and I have a CRB check done by canoe England. It all sounds like a lot of paper work but to be honest its because of my home office that I can get this all done. CANI have said I can continue...

I concur with Betty's advice, you may wish to inform your doctor you suspect leptospirosis as the earlier this is treated, the better.
Note however, it is a bacterial infection (not a virus).

Re: Update on the Dart
Some advise being offered to member's from the Country Landowner's Association, is that liability from any injury whilst someone is on your property lawfully or not, could result in a claim. This has been offered as a defence of the situation by the DFA at times. If a tree fell across the river, an...

Re: Why are coaching awards so difficult? This is why.
Vulch is spot on. The new schemes are specifically designed to cut out the amateur coach. Many will bleat about how 'inclusive' they are; but its obvious to many more that the schemes are designed to send paddlers to paid coaches in order to progress. As regards registration - I'm sure some would lo...

What you fail to understand is that the Dart is (in the summer) a 'local' river for 'local' paddlers.

Morsey.... ...why? I don't see what it'll achieve unless you are expecting coverage that will be seen by the public at large. Are we going to protest so the BCU/CE becomes more involved in access issues? Quite frankly, I've come to the conclusion that I would rather they didn't. Most of the movement...

Er... The BCU (AKA CE) are a private company limited by guarantee, i.e. not a public authority (despite their "governing body" claims). Does the FOI Act actually apply to them?

Re: Setting the clock backwards on the Dart?
If CE accept access agreements, they are accepting/agreeing that we don't have the right to access along all navigable natural watercourses, the amount of access that we have at present will be seriously reduced, and they will be lambasted by all their members as well as the paddling community as a...

Anyone who runs a club knows just how hard it is. Multiply that up by the membership of CE/BCU and imagine the headaches. True. It would be a full time job. Re: Thoughts on going first
Just wondering what the 'best practice' is for going first on stuff where you can't set up safety below, beforehand. So do you send the best paddler over, hope they make it okay and then they can set up safety once down there? or Do you send the best two paddlers down [in close succession] so one c...
