GUIDE TO THE RIVER TROMIE NAME OF RIVER: Tromie. WHERE IS IT?: It's near Kingussie on the A9. It's a River Spey tributary. Turn off the A9 at Kingussie and follow the B970 until you cross a bridge at Drumguish, this is the take out. PUT-INS/ TAKE-OUTS: Drive up a private road on the right for a few miles. When the river comes close to the road, this is the put in. APPROX LENGTH: TIME NEEDED: ACCESS SITUATION: Unknown. See the SCA notes on Access. WATER LEVEL INDICATORS: Look over the bridge, you can judge the level from here. We ran it on HIGH water and there were very large holes in this section. GRADING: 3 - 5. MAJOR HAZARDS/ FALLS: WEIR - can be taken on right. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Continuous grade 3 water leads to a gorge with a rapid turning a corner into a 6ft drop. Grade 3 water leads to a weir, which can be taken on the right. Grade 4 water leads to the section under the bridge with a very messy hole leading into a V-hole, a sharp turn and into another hole - lovely! OTHER NOTES: This river isn't far from the Pattack (heading west along the A9) and of course, the Spey. The River Feshie is very nearby. CONTRIBUTED BY: Mark Lyon. |
