GUIDE TO THE RIVER TEES

(Below Low Force)

NAME OF RIVER: Tees.

WHERE IS IT?: In Teesdale!

PUT-INS/ TAKE-OUTS: This is only worth doing tacked onto the section from High Force. Path steps or dirt road just down from High Force path pay to get on water (baliff may get you!) but do not pay site seeing or car park fee for more than one shuttle car.

APPROX LENGTH: 2 miles extra to the above section.

TIME NEEDED: Add a half hour to the previous section.

ACCESS SITUATION: Speak to the Access Officers, there are various agreements. The access for this section is controlled by the Raby Estate. You have to pay around £3 to the nice people in the hardware shop in Middleton in Teesdale or the High Force Hotel to be allowed on the river - which is a small price to pay for a quality section.

Latest access arrangements.

WATER LEVEL INDICATORS: If you bum scraped the top section, do not do get off at Low Force.

GRADING: 2. Bum scrape!

MAJOR HAZARDS/ FALLS: Below.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: One 3-4 foot fall 500 yards after Low Force. Run left onto the shallow slab.

Then, one weir a mile later. Get out left beside the road, concrete wall.

Flushiemere Beck joins along this stretch.

OTHER NOTES: Boredom! This probably wasn't worth doing unless you want a short easy section.
