GUIDE TO THE RIVER TAFF (Short Trip Upstream from Llandaff) NAME OF RIVER: Taff. WHERE IS IT?: South Wales, in Cardiff. PUT-INS/ TAKE-OUTS: Just off Llandaff, at bridge take the road left which runs alongside the river and park up about 1/2 mile in, on the riverside. I was a bit suspicious about the parking but everything was OK. APPROX LENGTH: You'll be lucky if you can get more than a few miles. TIME NEEDED: It's more of a splash about. ACCESS SITUATION: Unknown. WATER LEVEL INDICATORS: If there is water in it - paddle it. GRADING: 1. MAJOR HAZARDS/ FALLS: Major - that's "MAJOR" weir at Llandaff right next to rowing club. Do not go past the safety markers. Further up river there are 'holes' in the river bed - bit of a surprise when you fall into one when poling up. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This section of river is used by the Llandaff rowing club and can be busy. The paddling isn't over-inspiring, but is fun. The further you go up the better it becomes with some running water to add to the fun. OTHER NOTES: The bridge over the Taff is busy and many SLS (small little sh*ts) use it. If they spot you and have something to hand, expect it to come your way. Consider the Taff further upstream? CONTRIBUTED BY: Merlin& Jo, lajmerlin@aol.com. |
