GUIDE TO THE PERCUIL RIVER
NAME OF RIVER: Percuil River.
WHERE IS IT?: St Mawes, Cornwall. Map.PUT-INS/ TAKEOUTS: Beach at east side of St Mawes harbour SW848332 (opposite the quay). Cheap longterm car park across the road.
APPROX LENGTH: 3 miles up and 3 miles down.
TIME NEEDED: 2 hours.
ACCESS HASSLES: Public tidal water.
WATER LEVEL INDICATORS: Start 1 hour before high tide at Falmouth to get to the end of the creek while theres still water in it!
GRADING: I placid...in calm conditions.
MAJOR HAZARDS/ FALLS: Start of journey is exposed if SW wind blowing. Watch out for local wind freshening in afternoon, but in emergency could beg permission to land at boatyard around the corner which is sheltered.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Dramatically beautiful wooded creeks, winding between steep hills.
OTHER NOTES: 2 or 3 short side creeks can also be explored.
