GUIDE TO WHORLTON BECK

NAME OF RIVER: Whorlton Beck.

WATER LEVEL, ACCESS AND HAZARD UPDATES:Here.

WHERE IS IT?: In Teesdale! It's a minute tributary of the River Tees, river left at Whorlton Falls.

PUT-INS/ TAKE-OUTS: At Whorlton Falls get out and climb up as far as you wish (NZ108146).

APPROX LENGTH: Only 4 metres although it looks like there may be more above.

TIME NEEDED: Not long.

ACCESS HASSLES: Unknown.

WATER LEVEL INDICATORS: Can be done at any level you find your self there at (depending how much plastic you are prepared to scrape of your boat).

GRADING: Easy.

MAJOR HAZARDS/ FALLS: A hole in your boat and bruised bum at low water.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A fun little diversion from the Tees which may keep the daft ones in the group happy for a while. It is basically a short bouncy rock slide back into the Tees. Who else is silly enough to bother with this?

This isn't really a paddleable option and hardly warrants a guide, but I'll keep it in for comedy value!

Incidentally, the current recommended get out at Whorlton is at this trib and back along the footpath towards the bridge.

Looked a barely paddleable level this morning, but it is very full of trees - and what you land in on the Tees was horrific (1.98m on the Barney gauge, and falling).
